A grand theatre auditorium viewed from stage level presents itself to the listener, its overall character one of warm enclosure and ceremonial anticipation, proceeding from the distant background forward, the uppermost region dissolves into deep shadow punctuated by small points of warm white light like scattered stars against a night sky, these recessed ceiling fixtures provide subtle illumination without revealing the ceiling plane itself creating a sense of infinite height, moving downward the upper balcony level emerges from darkness its front edge a sweeping horizontal curve approximately one quarter from the top of the scene, warm amber light washes across angular wall panels finished in a rich honey-toned wood suggesting the smooth warmth of polished timber, the middle tier or mezzanine level occupies the central band featuring a similar curving balcony rail with rows of seating visible behind, the walls flanking both balconies display a distinctive faceted geometry imagine folded paper or crystalline rock faces with triangular planes meeting at crisp angles, small wall sconces cast concentrated pools of golden light creating rhythmic bright spots against the shadowed wall surfaces, the orchestra level dominates the lower two-thirds of the scene with hundreds of seats arranged in gently curved rows radiating outward, each seat upholstered in a deep vermillion red like ripe cherries or aged wine creating a warm saturated field that contrasts beautifully with the surrounding ochre wood, narrow aisles divide the seating into sections their pathways appearing as grey-beige channels between the red seats, the foreground reveals the polished wooden stage floor its amber tone similar to the wall surfaces, the overall atmosphere suggests hushed anticipation before a performance the space feeling simultaneously vast in its capacity yet intimate in its material warmth.
