Golden A' Design Award Winner 2020
Listeners will mentally construct an immersive tunnel-like museum gallery stretching forward into depth, where repeated curved archways of silvery metal create a corridor effect; beginning at the viewer's position and progressing forward, concentric semicircular ribs of polished steel, cool to the touch and reflective like brushed aluminum, arc overhead at regular intervals, each arch approximately the height of a tall doorway and spanning the full width of the space; between these structural ribs, panels of softly glowing white light create an even, gentle illumination suggesting the diffused brightness of an overcast sky, warm enough to feel welcoming yet balanced enough to accurately render colors; underfoot stretches plush carpeting in deep cherry red, its pile soft and yielding beneath footsteps, patterned with darker burgundy silhouettes of abstract shapes suggesting design objects and creative tools; flanking the central walking path, positioned at regular intervals on both left and right sides, stand display stations mounted on polished chrome pedestals rising approximately waist-height, each supporting an angled screen or panel of frosted white material resembling translucent glass; these pedestals reflect the red floor tones, creating warm amber highlights on their mirror-finished surfaces; progressing deeper into the tunnel, the arches appear progressively smaller as perspective compresses distance, drawing the eye toward the bright background where additional display shelving, informational panels, and exhibition materials become visible; the overall atmosphere suggests a sophisticated cultural venue, quiet except perhaps for soft ambient sounds, temperature-controlled and comfortable, with the slight metallic scent of new construction materials mingling with the clean textile presence of fresh carpeting; the space communicates institutional quality while maintaining approachability, its theatrical staging transforming passage through the museum into an engaging sensory journey.
CoDe, the Costa Design Collection, is the first museum-type cultural space on a cruise ship, created to capture the spirit of “Italian taste” through a selection of objects and furnishings, fashion items, artifacts and anecdotes. Each exhibit is intricately connected to the history of Made in Italy, a sentiment that represents the value of expertise and invention in the “Bel Paese,” making these design objects true points of reference for Italy’s global influence from the 1930s to the present.
