Scanning this beach scene from back to front, the composition presents three horizontal bands beginning with a pale blue-gray sky occupying the upper fifth, transitioning to a band of ocean water in cool teal and turquoise with gentle white wave crests visible at the horizon. The foreground two-thirds features pale cream-colored sand with subtle shadow variations. Dominating the center stands a large egg-shaped sculptural form approximately twice human height, oriented vertically like an enormous standing egg with its narrower end pointing skyward. The structure consists of vertical metallic ribs, silver-toned like polished steel, running from top to bottom like the longitude lines on a globe, creating an open lattice through which you can see the ocean behind. Attached to these ribs are hundreds of small spherical balls, each roughly the size of a large marble, arranged in horizontal rings circling the form. These spheres display every color imaginable in what feels like joyful randomness: deep blues like evening sky, greens ranging from forest to lime, oranges warm as marigolds, reds like ripe cherries, purples, yellows, whites, and metallic silvers. The overall effect resembles a three-dimensional bead curtain or an enormous decorative egg covered in colorful candy. Sunlight enters from the left, passing through the open structure and creating a luminous glow where light penetrates, while casting soft shadows on the sand beneath and to the right. The texture appears smooth and glossy on the spheres, cool and industrial on the metal ribs. A rocky outcropping of warm brown stone emerges at the far right edge. The atmosphere feels bright, warm, and celebratory, the colorful sculpture creating a striking contrast against the natural beach setting, like discovering a treasure washed ashore or a portal to another dimension standing quietly in the sand.
Superegg represents the rapid multiplying of single use coffee capsules, which symbolises human convenience and its impact on the environment. Appearing levitated above ground, the textured geometric superegg shape, as documented by mathematician Gabriel Lame, is dotted with random discarded coffee capsules arranged into perfect lines. The visceral experience engages the viewer from all angles and distances. Over 3000 capsules were collected via a call to action on social media and the local community. Superegg allows the viewer to peruse waste and encourages new recycling habits.
