Golden A' Design Award Winner 2018
This audio description presents a contemporary interior space featuring a distinctive wall-mounted radiator as its central focus. Scanning from left to right across the composition, the left portion reveals a large floor-to-ceiling window with minimal black framing, through which a summer landscape of dense green foliage is visible beneath a soft grey overcast sky, the trees appearing as a gentle blur of sage and emerald tones suggesting warmth and natural abundance beyond the interior space. Natural daylight streams through this aperture, creating a warm golden illumination that spreads across the pale cream-colored polished concrete floor and climbs the grey cement-rendered walls with their slightly rough, mineral texture that would feel cool and granular to the touch. In the foreground left, three horizontal wooden platforms ascend like broad shallow steps, their pale ash-toned surfaces displaying subtle natural grain patterns and offering a warm, smooth tactile quality like sanded driftwood. A sheer curtain of soft taupe or dusty mauve fabric hangs at the window edge, its texture appearing lightweight and flowing. The central focal point is a tall rectangular radiator mounted on the grey wall, standing approximately the height of a person with a relatively narrow profile. This heating element consists of multiple vertical white bars arranged in a rhythmic pattern, their surfaces appearing smooth and cool like powder-coated metal. Among the white vertical elements, several horizontal wooden inserts appear in graduated warm tones from honey amber to rich walnut, creating visual warmth against the cool white metal. The vertical bars create a ladder-like pattern with irregular spacing, generating shadow lines on the wall behind. Moving to the right portion of the composition, a leather armchair in warm cognac or burnt sienna tones occupies the middle ground, its surface suggesting the supple, slightly warm touch of well-worn leather, supported by slender black metal legs. Adjacent to the chair, a cream-colored ceramic pedestal table of curved hourglass form provides smooth, cool sculptural presence. The overall atmosphere suggests quiet sophistication and warmth despite the minimal palette, with the golden natural light creating a sense of afternoon tranquility.
The vertical designed lines are self connected with a special shape and give the object its defined outline. The oversized dimensions 1800X450mm and its shape offer a unique character. Its aluminium metal construction and the ability to use any desired colour, produce a special and commonly acceptable piece of work.
