Xtension Multifunctional light

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2018

A contemporary interior photograph presents a sophisticated modular lighting system as its primary subject, with interconnected metallic tubes extending diagonally across the upper two-thirds of a square format composition. Beginning at the upper left, a polished chromium tube anchors to the white wall surface, angling upward toward the ceiling where weathered honey-gold wooden planks provide warm textural contrast to the cool metallic elements. The tubes, approximately three to four centimeters in diameter, display mirror-bright surfaces that catch environmental light, creating elongated reflections that trace their cylindrical forms. Several tube sections emit a soft, warm ivory glow from within, suggesting integrated LED illumination housed behind translucent diffusing elements. Moving rightward across the composition, additional tubes intersect and diverge, creating a dynamic linear constellation connected by precision-machined joint elements. Small disc-shaped mounting plates, finished in matching polished metal, secure the system to both wall and ceiling surfaces. The background reveals an interior with industrial-loft character: black steel-framed windows or interior glazing creates geometric grid patterns against the light-filled space beyond. At left, a rectangular abstract painting hangs on the white wall, featuring loose, expressive brushwork in deep blue, black, and white tones, with gestural marks suggesting rain or vertical movement, and text-like elements visible in the lower portion. The foreground, occupying the bottom quarter of the image, presents a tabletop arrangement: stacked books with neutral-toned covers, a clear spherical glass vase containing delicate stems with small green leaves, and a sculptural metallic object with smooth, organic contours suggesting a large seed or abstract form. The overall atmosphere feels calm, refined, and intellectually engaged, with natural daylight filtering through the space creating soft, even illumination throughout.

Xtension is the first completely adjustable lamp in all its forms. It can extend and retract and be fastened to uneven surfaces thanks to its spherical latch points. This makes it capable of become a living object in one’s decor. When installed in a cluster it can become an element of communication, since its LEDs are programmable. Thus it becomes a signal light saying what is going on behind a door, like if a washroom is occupied, or indicate directions of intended travel. The combinations are limitless and can also be applied to art.
