Pocket House Residential

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2016

Scanning this architectural photograph from background to foreground, listeners will construct a mental image of a contemporary single-story residence photographed at dusk, set within a lush tropical garden. The upper portion of the frame is dominated by a canopy of mature trees, their dark silhouettes creating intricate patterns against a soft blue-gray twilight sky, palm fronds rise among the deciduous branches suggesting a warm climate setting. Moving downward, the residence itself presents as a long horizontal pavilion structure, its framework painted in a cool blue-gray tone reminiscent of twilight shadows or weathered steel. The entire front facade consists of floor-to-ceiling glass panels that reveal warmly illuminated interior spaces, the light glowing like honey or amber, creating a welcoming beacon effect against the cooling evening atmosphere. Through the transparent walls, one can perceive horizontal timber planking in warm golden brown tones, suggesting the tactile smoothness of polished tropical hardwood. The roof extends as a flat plane topped by a terrace level bounded by glass railings, where outdoor furniture silhouettes suggest additional living space above. At the left side, a wooden deck platform extends outward bearing three rounded sculptural stools and a vintage motorcycle, these elements adding domestic character and suggesting inhabitant presence. A contemporary wicker hanging chair suspended before the glass creates gentle curves against the rectilinear architecture. The foreground presents dense ornamental grasses with long blade-like leaves that would feel cool and smooth, their soft gray-green masses creating textural contrast with the geometric architecture. A brick pathway laid in herringbone pattern curves from the lower edge toward the dwelling, the terracotta-colored pavers suggesting warmth underfoot and guiding approach. The overall atmosphere conveys peaceful evening tranquility, the kind of settling stillness when day sounds fade and nocturnal quiet begins, with warm interior light promising domestic comfort within a carefully tended garden sanctuary.

The project is a house inside a naval container with the use of the solar energy; dry construction generating less waste; thermo-acoustic treatment to do not use air conditioner; coatings and furniture made with recyclable materials. All of them based at the sustainability principles. The greatest challenge of this project was the respect with the small space! The total domain of the spatial proportions was crucial to meet the client's program: a bedroom; a bathroom; living with a dining room and a kitchen! All the furniture was carefully studied and designed to meet this concept!
