Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025
A contemporary corporate headquarters building rises beyond a large still reflecting pool that spans the entire foreground of this architectural photograph captured during twilight hours. Scanning from bottom to top, the immediate foreground presents weathered grey and tan stones arranged along the water's edge at lower left, with delicate green reed-like plants emerging nearby, their vertical forms contrasting the dominant horizontal lines throughout. The reflecting pool, colored in cool slate blue with warmer amber reflections from building lights, acts as a perfect mirror, doubling everything above into shimmering inverted symmetry below. Moving to the middle ground, a landscaped island separates water from building, populated with mature deciduous trees displaying olive and sage green foliage, their organic rounded canopies softening the geometric architecture behind. At right on this island stands a sculptural pavilion structure with dramatically angled planes meeting at sharp points, finished in warm bronze or copper-toned material, illuminated from within to glow like folded amber paper against the darkening sky. The headquarters building itself occupies the upper middle portion, composed of multiple horizontal volumes that step progressively upward in terraced formation, the lowest levels featuring extensive glass curtain walls with visible interior warm lighting, while upper levels display rhythmic patterns of terracotta-colored vertical panels alternating with glazed sections. These warm reddish-brown and sienna tones feel like sun-warmed clay against the cool atmosphere. The sky dominates the upper half, filled with layered stratocumulus clouds in gradations from pale lavender-grey to deeper slate blue, creating a sense of cool, humid air and approaching evening. The overall atmosphere suggests peaceful stillness, the water absolutely motionless, the air calm, with ambient coolness of overcast twilight balanced by warm golden architectural lighting that traces pathways and illuminates ground-level gathering spaces, creating an inviting glow suggesting human presence and activity within serene natural surroundings.
The site is in FuYang, surrounded by small hills and water on three sides. This area was once home to water birds, and the way they spread their wings in flight is full of energy and movement. This matches the clients vision perfectly. Thats why the architect chose the flying bird as the design inspiration. The Xinhe Headquarters shows how an office building can work in harmony with nature. Instead of fighting against the environment, the design embraces it, making the building a place where people and nature connect in a positive way.
