This interior corridor presents a narrow passageway approximately three meters high, defined entirely by luminous golden walls that stretch from floor to ceiling on both left and right sides. Scanning from the viewer's position forward, the space extends perhaps eight to ten meters toward a bright vertical light source at the far end. The walls consist of square tiles arranged in a precise grid pattern, each tile surfaced with what appears to be hammered gold leaf that catches light unevenly across its textured surface. The color of these walls ranges from deep amber in shadowed areas, warm like honey held to afternoon sun, through brilliant gold resembling sunlight on brass, to pale champagne tones where light washes most intensely near the far end. The texture would feel slightly irregular to touch, like fine crinkled foil with subtle raised areas and shallow depressions. Above, the ceiling presents as absolute matte black, absorbing all light and creating a sense of infinite darkness overhead. Below, the floor appears as polished black stone or similar material, smooth and cool as river rock, creating mirror-like reflections of the golden walls that double their apparent height. At the corridor's far end, a narrow vertical opening reveals bright white light, creating a luminous beacon that draws the eye forward. The light from this opening washes across the adjacent golden tiles, creating a gradual brightening from the viewer's position toward the destination. The overall atmosphere suggests warmth and enclosure, like walking through a precious metal vessel toward revelation, with the contrast between radiant walls and dark horizontal planes creating a focused, meditative quality that transforms simple passage into ceremonial progression.

This project incorporates Kanazawa gold leaf, a traditional craft, into spatial design, blending historical techniques with a refined aesthetic. The Golden Restroom features over 3,000 gold leaf tiles arranged against a dark backdrop, with carefully designed lighting that accentuates their glow. By utilizing a Unesco listed technique, the design reflects the dialogue between Japanese heritage and present day craftsmanship, offering a space where tradition is thoughtfully expressed. The interplay of materials and light enhances the atmosphere, allowing visitors to experience the artistry.
