Lumin Wave Pendant

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

Suspended from a slender black cord at top center of the frame, a vertical lighting fixture of exceptional elegance extends downward through approximately eighty percent of the image height, its central spine consisting of a narrow wooden cylinder, smooth and precisely turned, with surface grain flowing continuously from top to bottom in warm tones reminiscent of polished walnut, reading as rich chocolate brown in shadowed areas and warming to honey amber where light grazes the wood. The wood surface has a subtle satin sheen, smooth as polished stone to the touch were one able to reach out and run fingers along its length. At the very top of this cylinder and again at its bottom terminus, rectangular apertures are cut through the wood, each opening perhaps one-fifth the width of the cylinder and spanning its full diameter, from these rectangular windows soft golden light emanates, warm as late afternoon sunlight filtering through amber glass, suggesting the gentle 2700 Kelvin glow of incandescent bulbs or warm LED sources tucked within, this illumination creating gentle luminous halos that fade gradually into the surrounding wood. Most striking are three organic ribbon-like forms that emerge from the right side of the central wooden column at vertically staggered intervals, the topmost wave appearing perhaps one-quarter down from the top aperture, the middle wave near the pendant's center, and the lowest wave emerging roughly three-quarters down the shaft. Each ribbon appears constructed of the same warm-toned wood as the central column, with grain patterns carefully matched, these wave-forms curve outward from the spine in graceful sinuous arcs that bring to mind wind-sculpted sand formations or ripples spreading across still water after a stone is dropped, each profile consisting of multiple concentric lines that create the visual impression of topographical contour intervals, as though each wave is built from thin laminated layers stacked and shaped to create the undulating three-dimensional relief. The waves vary slightly in their exact profiles and the degree to which they project outward, the middle wave appearing most pronounced, extending furthest into space to the right, while the top and bottom waves are somewhat more restrained, this variation creating rhythmic visual interest rather than mechanical repetition. The entire pendant is photographed against a seamlessly gradated neutral background that transitions from pale dove gray in the upper portion to slightly warmer medium gray toward the bottom, this atmospheric backdrop ensuring the pendant's warm wood tones and sculptural profile read with absolute clarity, the lighting throughout is soft and diffused, suggesting studio conditions with multiple light sources positioned to minimize harsh shadows, though the pendant itself casts a subtle elongated shadow that falls downward and slightly to the left, grounding the suspended object within the pictorial space and confirming its three-dimensional physical presence. The overall impression is one of refined craftsmanship, organic elegance, and warm intimacy, the slender vertical proportions suggesting the pendant would provide focused illumination appropriate for reading areas, dining surfaces, or accent lighting, while the warm wood tones and gentle curves promise to bring natural material warmth and sculptural beauty to contemporary interiors, the careful integration of illumination within the wooden form demonstrating thoughtful technical resolution where aesthetic aspiration and functional requirement meet in harmonious synthesis.

This lighting design harmoniously blends aesthetics and functionality, taking inspiration from the visual patterns of acoustic waveforms. The refined combination of wood and metal creates a warm yet modern atmosphere. Integrated light modules and dynamic wave-shaped components add visual depth and spatial rhythm. Manufactured with high-quality materials and an innovative structural approach, the design stands out both visually and technically, offering an artistic lighting solution for contemporary interiors.
