Izanagi Villas

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

An architectural rendering presents two contemporary villa structures positioned at different elevations along a sloping hillside densely covered with Mediterranean vegetation including various trees showing rich green foliage ranging from deep forest tones to lighter yellow-green highlights across their rounded irregular canopies. Beginning with spatial orientation and scanning from background to foreground, the composition extends across a horizontal landscape format where a luminous sky occupies the upper portion, graduating from pale blue near the horizon to slightly deeper cerulean overhead with a few soft white clouds suggesting gentle atmospheric movement and clear weather conditions. The distant background presents a continuation of the wooded hillside receding into soft atmospheric haze where individual trees become less distinct and colors shift toward cooler, lighter values suggesting spatial depth and distance. Moving into the middle ground, an upper villa structure appears partially visible through the vegetation, characterized by a long horizontal flat roof in warm terracotta or copper tones suggesting oxidized metal or natural clay materials that feel warm to imagine touching, with white or pale cream walls beneath appearing smooth and cool like plaster or stucco. Progressing forward down the hillside, the foreground villa commands central attention, positioned in the lower third of the composition and occupying perhaps one-quarter of the total image width. This lower structure features a distinctive flat roof extending horizontally with a warm golden-brown tone like aged timber or earthen material, supported by a series of slender columns creating a covered terrace area. The walls are rendered in pale neutral tones suggesting smooth cool stone or concrete that would feel solid and slightly cool under one's hand. The most visually prominent feature is a rectangular swimming pool immediately adjacent to the building's southern face, filled with brilliant turquoise water suggesting refreshing coolness, the color intense and saturated like tropical lagoon water or polished turquoise stone. The pool's surface shows subtle rippling texture suggesting gentle water movement that would create soft lapping sounds and reflect dancing light patterns. The pool deck surrounding the water appears to be smooth warm-toned stone or concrete, pale beige like sun-warmed limestone. Within the covered terrace area beneath the roof overhang, one can discern seating furniture suggesting outdoor living spaces oriented toward the view, with white or light-colored cushions that would feel soft and yielding. The entire lower structure is embraced by a curved retaining wall constructed from natural stone in warm ochre and sienna tones, textured and irregular suggesting rough-hewn blocks that would feel coarse and solid, descending in terraced levels following the hillside's natural contour. Vegetation surrounds and partially obscures portions of both structures, with trees positioned at various distances creating layered depth, their foliage appearing full and lush suggesting the soft rustling of leaves in a gentle breeze and the fresh scent of Mediterranean herbs and pine. A curved roadway or driveway appears in the lower right, rendered in smooth gray suggesting asphalt or concrete pavement. The overall lighting suggests clear midday conditions with even illumination creating minimal harsh shadows, the sunlight feeling warm on exposed surfaces and creating a serene, luxurious atmosphere of privileged retreat where one might experience the quietness of elevated seclusion punctuated only by birdsong, leaf rustle, and the gentle movement of pool water.
