Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2025
This interior space presents a large exhibition hall characterized by dramatically curved white ceiling forms that flow and sweep across the entire upper portion of the view, creating the impression of massive sculptural waves frozen in motion. Scanning from the ceiling downward, these organic curved surfaces in warm cream and soft gray tones interweave and overlap, some portions receding into shadow while others catch diffused light that illuminates their smooth, plaster-like surfaces. The ceiling forms feel as though they possess the softness of gathered fabric or the solidity of carved stone, their edges crisp where they meet yet their bodies rounded and continuous. Suspended from thin cables at roughly mid-height, two elongated horizontal installations float in the space, each composed of perhaps one hundred or more individual pendant elements. These suspended pieces combine clear crystal-like spheres with turquoise and aquamarine colored glass orbs, ranging in size from small marbles to perhaps tennis ball dimensions. They scatter across their supporting structures like beads from a broken necklace, catching and reflecting light with the cool sparkle of ice crystals or tropical seawater. The turquoise elements feel refreshing and cool against the warm neutral tones surrounding them. Below these floating light sculptures, the middle ground reveals curved white architectural elements and passages leading to additional spaces, with glimpses of window walls at the right showing exterior daylight in blue tones. In the lower foreground, a sculptural white reception counter with angular faceted surfaces provides a geometric anchor, its form suggesting folded paper or cut crystal. The highly polished floor reflects everything above like still water, creating a mirror world that doubles the visual complexity. The overall atmosphere feels serene, contemplative, and otherworldly, as though one has entered a space carved from ice or clouds.
As the exhibition center for the world's largest indoor ski resort, the project integrates the design language of Ice, Light and Art, to create an immersive exploration experience through six themed scenes, showcasing ice and snow culture alongside urban innovation. Its flexible spatial layout ensures a seamless transition from exhibition to future commercial operations, delivering lasting economic and cultural value while driving the rise of ice and snow tourism in southern China.
