Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025
Occupying the central portion of the frame stands a multi-story residential building composed of stacked geometric volumes that project and recede to create a sculptural silhouette against a sky that shifts from pale blue-gray near the lower edge to deeper blue overhead, suggesting either early morning or late afternoon light with its soft diffused quality. Beginning at ground level and moving upward through the architectural composition, the lowest zone consists of a substantial horizontal volume finished in deep slate gray with darker charcoal or near-black sections, this base containing what appears to be parking facilities visible through wide openings revealing several vehicles in shadow, their forms barely distinguishable in the dim interior spaces. Warm brown tones appear in paving materials at street level, these earthen hues evoking sun-baked clay or treated concrete that would feel rough and slightly warm underfoot, while scattered throughout the foreground sit several parked automobiles in silver, dark gray, and black finishes that would feel cool and smooth to touch, their reflective painted surfaces catching ambient light. Rising above this base, white cubic volumes project outward creating covered areas below, these pristine surfaces suggesting the cool smoothness of rendered masonry or stucco that would feel slightly textured like fine sandpaper if touched. The white sections contain large windows with dark frames revealing glimpses of interior spaces where furniture and plants can be discerned, the glass surfaces appearing transparent and reflective simultaneously, suggesting the cool smoothness of polished glazing. Between and atop these white volumes appear sections finished in ribbed or corrugated material creating vertical line patterns, these surfaces in muted gray-green or teal tones that would feel rigid yet textured with regular grooves running vertically. Throughout various levels, green plants emerge from terrace spaces and planter boxes, their foliage appearing soft and organic against hard architectural geometry, these living elements suggesting freshness and the slight movement of leaves in breeze though the image captures stillness. Upper portions feature additional white volumes and more of the ribbed surfacing, with transparent railings revealing rooftop terrace spaces where more greenery thrives, creating the impression of hanging gardens integrated into built form. The lighting across all surfaces appears gentle and even without harsh shadows, suggesting overcast conditions or the golden quality of early or late day sun diffused through atmospheric haze, this soft illumination creating subtle gradations across planes rather than dramatic contrasts.
The Roof House project, situated on the roof of a car showroom in Kermanshah, challenges conventional beliefs about residential spaces. This project explores alternative ways to transfigure the house concept and shift its understanding from a new perspective. It reinterprets the generic house through three key concepts: Destruction, where external forces deform the house; Explosion, where structural and non-structural elements exaggerate and withdraw from the debris; and Expansion, where objects dominate others by spreading their essence.
