Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
This large-scale outdoor sculpture presents a dramatic crescent shape rising from a rectangular metallic base positioned in an urban plaza at twilight. Scanning from base to apex, the sculpture begins at ground level with a low rectangular pedestal finished in polished metal with a subtle purple-pink glow from below. Rising from this base, the main sculptural form consists of approximately forty to fifty parallel curved metal tubes arranged in tight formation, creating a sweeping arc that curves from lower left through center and up to the upper right portion of the composition. The overall shape suggests a crescent moon or perhaps an unfurling fern frond, with the outer edge forming a smooth continuous curve while the inner edge reveals the individual tubular elements separating and reaching upward like delicate tendrils. The color impression moves from cool silvery white at the sculpture's illuminated outer edge, suggesting moonlight on polished chrome, through gradations of pale lavender like early evening sky, into warmer rose and magenta tones where theatrical uplighting from below suffuses the interior curve with a gentle warmth reminiscent of sunset clouds. The texture appears smooth and industrially precise, cool to the touch as polished steel would be, with each tubular element maintaining consistent diameter throughout its length. The background reveals an urban setting at the blue hour, with the sky displaying that particular deep azure of late twilight that feels both peaceful and expectant. To the left, silhouetted trees with sparse branches create organic contrast against the geometric precision of surrounding buildings. To the right, a large curved commercial building shows horizontal bands of cyan-colored lighting, its architectural presence establishing urban context while remaining visually subordinate to the sculpture. The overall atmosphere suggests a calm urban evening, with the sculpture serving as a luminous focal point that transforms the plaza into a space for contemplation and wonder.
This project draws inspiration from China and France's cultural heritages, focusing on lunar phases and the dragon. The design team blends Eastern full moon unity with Western crescent moon hope, incorporating the dragon symbol. The installation fuses lunar cultures with dragon motifs, using lighting and smoke techniques. It creates a visual feast, celebrating China and France's friendship and shared aspirations, inviting audiences to appreciate the beauty of both cultures and their harmony.
