Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
A large sculptural fountain installation occupies the center of an elegant interior space, framed by gathered curtains and decorative screens. Scanning from the base upward, the structure begins with a substantial carved stone basin approximately waist height, rendered in warm cream and honey tones suggesting polished alabaster, its surface decorated with vertical fluted channels creating rhythmic shadow patterns. This lower bowl supports a secondary smaller tier, also in warm stone, from which rises the uppermost basin. The entire stone structure appears illuminated from within, casting a warm golden glow like amber-tinted candlelight that reveals the material's translucent depth. Erupting from all three tiers, transparent glass elements extend outward in every direction, their forms resembling water droplets and spray frozen at the precise moment of maximum dynamic expression. These glass tendrils vary in thickness from slender as a finger to substantial as an arm, their surfaces smooth and cool-appearing, catching and refracting light to create subtle rainbow effects at certain edges. The installation is flanked by floor-to-ceiling drapery in sophisticated taupe, the fabric gathered in generous vertical folds with the soft, yielding appearance of heavy silk or velvet. Partially visible decorative screens in warm gold metalwork frame the sides, featuring curling arabesque patterns suggesting wrought iron or cast bronze. Above, spherical white luminaires hang at varying heights, their glow contributing warm ambient light. Beyond the sculpture, through an architectural opening, glimpses of pale blue daylight suggest connection to exterior space. The overall atmosphere conveys quiet grandeur, the implied silence of a contemplative space designed for pause and appreciation.
This sculptural piece, located at İstanbul Airport's Kaimakk Restaurant, combines traditional travertine stone with large scale glass splashes to represent the concept of time. The stone fountain symbolizes the past, while the glass splashes, appearing to emerge from the fountain, capture the present moment. The design stands out through its integration of contrasting materials and its symbolic representation of time, blending craftsmanship with a narrative that reflects both history and the present in a dynamic form.
