Eclipse Residential Interior

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

This residential interior unfolds as a sophisticated layering of horizontal and vertical planes visible through careful photographic framing that positions the viewer just inside a living area looking through toward a dining space beyond. Beginning with spatial orientation and scanning from the overhead plane downward and from foreground to background, the ceiling presents as a warm honeyed timber surface composed of continuous linear planks or veneer panels running horizontally left to right across the entire visible expanse, the wood grain reads as amber and caramel tones with darker linear striations suggesting natural oak or walnut with book-matched patterning, this timber ceiling plane extends continuously from the immediate foreground overhead through the framed opening and into the distant dining zone creating unifying horizontal datum, integrated into this ceiling are two parallel black recessed linear channels running the length of the space housing what appear to be track lighting or linear LED strips. The wall surfaces present in cool gray-taupe tones suggesting polished plaster or fine concrete with subtle mottled texture that catches light unevenly creating organic variation across the surface, these walls possess a matte sheen that feels smooth and cool like touched stone or aged lime plaster. In the right portion of the foreground a dramatic floor-to-ceiling wall surface appears in dark charcoal gray stone with pronounced linear veining and polished finish that reflects light with the cool smoothness of honed marble. Moving to the furnishings in the right foreground, a generous sectional sofa upholstered in pale gray-taupe linen or cotton blend fabric presents soft cushioning with relaxed informality, draped across the sofa is a throw blanket in similar neutral tone with subtle texture, the fabric suggests the yielding softness of brushed cotton or lightweight wool. Positioned before the sectional sits a sculptural coffee table in matte black metal with geometric composition featuring circular tray-like upper surface supported by angular intersecting planes below creating architectural silhouette, atop this table rests what appears to be a traditional black iron teapot and a small stack of neutral-toned books or magazines. The floor beneath displays a charcoal area rug with dense low pile creating soft textural ground. Through the framed opening that defines the middle ground, the space transitions to a dining area where a dark wood or black table is visible flanked by simple dining chairs and benches with light wood tones echoing the ceiling material, suspended above this dining surface appears a delicate linear light fixture, beyond the dining zone glimpses of what may be kitchen or additional living spaces appear through translucent or frosted glass partitions creating layered spatial depth. The overall illumination reads as warm and even with approximately 2800K warmth washing the timber ceiling contrasted against cooler 4000K neutrality in the recessed downlighting, creating gentle modeling without harsh shadows, the light feels like late afternoon or early evening with ambient glow suggesting concealed perimeter sources that lift the space and dissolve corners. The atmosphere conveys tranquil sophistication, a carefully composed domesticity where material quality and spatial proportion produce serenity without austerity, the temperature feels temperate and still, the implied silence of a well-insulated interior refuge, the textures ranging from the smooth coolness of stone and plaster to the organic warmth of timber to the soft yielding comfort of textiles create rich tactile variety within a disciplined material palette.

This design centers on the Sun and Moon concept, integrating soft warm lighting and flowing curves to subtly minimize the visual impact of structural columns, resulting in a layered and modern residential space. Employing a refined mix of wood, stone, and metal finishes with hidden doors and precise linear detailing the design balances diverse functional areas, meeting family needs while showcasing innovative craftsmanship and technical expertise.
