Children on the Move Publication

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

An educational publication spread across a white surface in an overlapping diagonal arrangement occupies the visual field, with materials photographed from directly above at approximately sixty to seventy degrees, creating an isometric viewing angle that allows simultaneous visibility of multiple pages and covers. Beginning at the compositional center, a white booklet cover presents itself face-up, featuring a circular photograph of two young children, one with light curly hair and one with dark straight hair, embracing cheek-to-cheek with warm genuine smiles suggesting friendship and affection; this circular photograph is framed by four organic rounded shapes in bright colors like the blue of a clear summer sky, yellow like sunlight or dandelions, coral red like tropical flowers, and green like fresh grass. Moving outward from this central cover, multiple interior page spreads fan across the white background in measured spacing, revealing content that alternates between text blocks and illustrations. The illustrations employ a distinctive visual style depicting urban environments from an elevated isometric perspective, showing simplified geometric buildings rendered in soft colors such as pale blue-gray suggesting stone or concrete in gentle morning light, warm sand tones like desert earth or aged stucco heated by afternoon sun, delicate lavender like twilight shadows or distant mountains, and dusty rose like terra cotta or sunset-lit facades. These illustrated scenes contain miniature human figures, small vehicles, trees, and infrastructure elements like roads and crosswalks, all rendered with simplified geometric forms that feel approachable and clear rather than complex or overwhelming. The text visible across these spreads appears in organized columns with comfortable line spacing and margins, creating a sense of breathing room and accessibility; certain words and phrases are highlighted in bright yellow like sunshine cutting through text, creating visual emphasis warm and attention-drawing, while other key terms appear in the same cerulean blue as the cover accents, creating chromatic continuity cool and calm like water. The paper stock appears smooth and matte, not glossy or reflective, suggesting a surface that would feel dry and slightly textured under fingertips, with enough substance to hold form without curling. The overall arrangement creates a sense of organized display, as though these materials have been carefully positioned to show their range and content, with slight shadows visible beneath overlapping pages suggesting gentle thickness and dimensional presence in space. The lighting feels even and diffused like an overcast day or indoor space with balanced illumination from multiple directions, ensuring all details remain clearly visible without harsh contrasts or obscured areas. The typography visible across text blocks uses clean letters without decorative serifs, suggesting contemporary clarity and ease of reading, with different text sizes creating hierarchy from large section headings down to comfortable body text. Small illustrated figures visible in the isometric scenes appear in various postures including walking, standing in conversation, playing, and moving through spaces, rendered in simple shapes with enough detail to suggest human presence and activity but stylized enough to feel universal rather than specific. The color temperature across the composition feels predominantly warm and welcoming, with the white background providing brightness like natural daylight, the pastel illustration tones suggesting softness and gentleness like watercolor or chalk, and the saturated accent colors providing energetic warmth like mid-morning sunshine and the fresh vitality of spring gardens.

Children on the move face severe risks, yet reliable definition and data for protection is lacking. To address this gap, Idac (a cross-sectoral global coalition jointly led by Eurostat, Iom, Oecd, Unhcr and Unicef), released this publication, offering essential definitions, data, and practices. Three isometric infographic illustrations are created to define, distinguish and explain the various situations and statuses of children on the move. Standardizing migration terms is crucial for accurately identifying and supporting these children, ensuring evidence based policies for their wellbeing.
