Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025
Scanning this large horizontal photograph from left to right reveals three tall rectangular posters mounted side by side against a wall, positioned beneath an industrial ceiling structure with dark triangular steel trusses and translucent panels allowing soft ambient light from above. The leftmost poster features a vivid mint green background, cool and refreshing like spearmint, with a large graphic element at center resembling a chunky letter V rendered in bright sunshine yellow with rough black gestural marks cutting through it like brushstrokes or torn paper. Moving to the center poster, the background shifts to warm hot pink, reminiscent of tropical flowers, bearing an abstract X shape formed by overlapping diagonal bars in teal green and lighter pink, with similar expressive black marks adding texture and energy. The rightmost poster presents an electric cyan blue background, bright as a clear summer sky, featuring an irregular organic blob shape outlined in pink with teal green interior and black gestural accents suggesting spontaneous mark-making. Each poster carries identical typography arranged in the upper portion, with large black text reading School of Visual Arts Design in a modern typeface, accompanied by Chinese characters to the left and date information reading 05.21-29 and 06.04-12 to the right. Below the main heading, smaller text lists programs including Visual Communication Design, Animation, Digital Media Arts, Arts And Science, with a website address at bottom. The floor surface appears smooth and pale, like polished concrete. In the lower right portion of the image, a person walks past, their figure blurred by motion, wearing casual clothing with bare legs visible, their movement creating a sense of time passing and human activity within this architectural space.
The 2024 visual identity system for the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts School of Visual Design transmutes ceremonial flags into proto architectures of design speculation. By weaponizing the flag's inherent dialectic, simultaneously serving as ideological docking stations for collective visioning and speculative incubators for disciplinary subversion, this framework repositions GAFA as a generative node within global design's epistemic evolution.
