Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025
Entering this interior architectural space, you encounter a sophisticated lobby or common area environment organized around two dominant wall treatments that define the spatial character through contrasting materials and surface articulations. Beginning at the left side of the composition, a monumental wall surface finished in pale stone, perhaps limestone or an engineered stone composite, commands immediate attention through its sculptural three-dimensional relief pattern. This stone wall features deep geometric faceting creating a folded or origami-like surface of angular planes, each facet catching light differently to produce subtle gradations from warm silver-gray in the brightest areas to cooler dove-gray in the recessed shadows. Running your hand across this surface, were it possible, would reveal sharp crisp edges where planes intersect and smooth cool stone faces between, the materiality suggesting weight, permanence, and refined craftsmanship. Moving rightward across the composition into the central zone, the floor presents as large-format tiles in pale gray stone or porcelain with a smooth, slightly reflective surface that would feel cool and solid underfoot, the subtle tonal variations within the flooring material suggesting natural stone rather than uniform manufactured product, with barely visible grout lines maintaining clean uninterrupted expanses. The ceiling overhead reads as a smooth plane in off-white or warm white, appearing to float horizontally above the space and extending beyond visible boundaries, suggesting generous ceiling height of perhaps ten to twelve feet. The right two-thirds of the composition transitions into an extensive wooden wall system characterized by continuous vertical fluting, narrow rounded channels running from floor to ceiling in regular rhythm creating a linear texture that would feel like gentle ridges under the fingers, alternating between slight convexity and concavity. This wood appears richly toned in medium to dark brown with visible grain patterns suggesting walnut or similarly elegant hardwood, its surface likely finished with matte or satin oil or lacquer that would feel smooth yet organic rather than plasticky. Integrated seamlessly into this fluted wooden wall are three doorways, their flush panels maintaining the vertical rhythm while slender vertical handles in brushed metal provide functional accents that would feel cool and sleek to grasp. The lighting throughout suggests daytime conditions with soft diffused natural illumination entering from beyond the right frame edge, creating gentle pools of brightness on the floor that would feel like standing in indirect sunlight filtered through architectural screening, while additional warmer artificial lighting integrated into the ceiling adds amber-toned enrichment to the wood surfaces, creating an overall atmosphere that would feel neither too cool nor too warm but carefully balanced. In the right foreground, a reception desk or architectural accent element presents as a low horizontal form constructed from lighter-toned wood with distinct linear grain, its cantilevered construction suggesting lightness and contemporary elegance, the base appearing in dark material creating visual grounding. The spatial volume reads as generous and open, sound within this environment would likely carry clearly across hard reflective surfaces while the wooden fluted wall would provide some acoustic softening, the overall acoustic character suggesting quiet and controlled rather than reverberant or muffled. The atmosphere evokes serene sophistication, the materials and proportions working together to create a sense of understated luxury and permanence, the space feeling neither coldly minimal nor overly decorated but carefully calibrated between restraint and richness. Temperature-wise, the stone surfaces suggest coolness while the abundant warm-toned wood provides visual and psychological warmth, the balance suggesting a comfortable ambient environment neither too austere nor too cozy. The carefully composed relationship between these materials, the precision of their fabrication and installation, and the subtle interplay of natural and artificial illumination across their varied surfaces creates an environment that would feel both impressive in its quality and welcoming in its human scale and material authenticity.
In this thoughtfully designed residential property, the design team has integrated the Lohas philosophy into the shared spaces, creating a connection between residents, the architecture, and the surrounding natural environment. Seating areas, communal spaces, and greenery are carefully arranged to encourage social interaction and a sense of community. In addition to its visual appeal, the design considers sustainability and well being, offering a practical approach to modern residential living.
