Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025
Scanning this commercial product photograph from back to front, listeners encounter a dark, roughly textured background suggesting weathered stone or concrete in deep charcoal gray, establishing a dramatic backdrop against which the main subjects emerge with striking presence. Three cylindrical aluminum beverage containers are arranged in a triangular grouping, with the central can positioned slightly higher and forward, the two flanking cans set back at equal distances to either side. All three rest upon a circular platform that glows with bright lime-green light, like phosphorescent energy emanating from below, this illumination casting an otherworldly atmosphere across the lower portion of the scene. Each can measures approximately the height of a standard palm and features a matte gunmetal gray metallic surface as its base, upon which elaborate full-color illustrations wrap around the cylindrical form. The central can displays a magnificent dragon-like creature rendered in vivid lime green with accents of crimson red and golden yellow, its scaled serpentine body coiling around the can surface, scales textured like overlapping armor plates, with fierce red eyes and flame-like protrusions creating an impression of contained power and intensity. The two flanking cans present a different creature variation in cool ocean blues and teals, suggesting aquatic serpents or sea dragons, their forms similarly coiled and dynamic, accompanied by tropical flower elements in coral and teal that add softness to the fierce imagery. Each can features bold white lettering within banner-shaped frames near the top, with additional text integrated into the designs. The overall effect suggests theatrical product presentation, the green glow from below creating the sensation of mysterious energy or magical emergence, while the careful arrangement and dramatic lighting invite admiration of the detailed illustration work adorning each container.
Channeling the iconic Mtn Dew energy, the designers set the sights on a new adult oriented avatar that could extend the attitude to Hard Dew. The lively U.S. design took inspiration from biker tattoos, a jumping off point for the Asia-Pacific design, which landed on another popular tattoo design: dragons. In bright blue and glimmering green, the fierce, fantastical creature helped add some fire to the new ready to drink alcoholic beverage. For passionate Dew drinkers with a taste for fun, designers redefined the meaning of Do the Dew by giving adults the chance to say hard yes to Hard Dew.
