Golden A' Design Award Winner 2025
Scanning from the ground floor upward through this expansive interior, listeners encounter a vast multi-story shopping atrium dominated by flowing white architectural ribbons that spiral overhead like frozen waves. The ground level presents a cream-colored stone floor, smooth and cool as polished limestone, with a distinctive black and white checkerboard pattern in one section providing visual rhythm underfoot. Moving upward, the eye travels along multiple shopping levels connected by curving white balconies that undulate organically rather than following straight lines. These parapets feel as smooth as porcelain, their surfaces illuminated from within by thin strips of warm white light that trace their serpentine edges like glowing threads. Glass railings, transparent as still water, allow views across the central void without obstruction. At mid-levels, retail storefronts display warm-toned signage in deep teal greens, rich burgundy reds, and amber yellows, creating welcoming pools of color against the predominantly white and gray architectural envelope. The atmosphere feels cool and airy, like standing in an open courtyard on a clear day. Small figures of shoppers, perhaps fifteen or twenty visible across various levels, provide human scale, appearing as small as chess pieces from this elevated vantage point. Crowning the entire space, a magnificent skylight opens to blue sky above, its organic curving frame echoing the balcony forms below. Natural daylight floods downward, creating soft, even illumination without harsh shadows, the light quality suggesting a bright but comfortable midday. The overall sensation combines spaciousness with intimacy, grandeur with accessibility.
The challenge for the designers was to create a modern eco fashion shopping center in the classical garden city of Suzhou. The design concept for this project, dancing waters in forested streams, blends the elegance of Suzhou's garden waters with the natural waters of Xiangcheng. It transitions from calm to lively to energetic. The project features an experiential space on its upper floors called Moon Island. This area highlights the project's new social and experiential formats.
