Crochet Floor Lamp

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

This is a floor lamp presented in a portrait-orientation photograph, showing the complete fixture against a dark draped backdrop. The lamp stands on three slender brass legs that spread outward like a photographer's tripod, creating a stable triangular base on a smooth taupe-colored floor. Rising from the junction of these golden legs is a vertical brass support rod. The most striking element crowns this structure: a continuous loop of glowing light that traces an organic, asymmetrical shape reminiscent of a paisley pattern or a stylized figure-eight tilted on its side. The illuminated tube begins at the central support, curves upward and to the right forming a large oval approximately two-thirds the height of the entire lamp, then loops back and downward, crossing behind the initial curve before completing a smaller secondary loop below. The light itself emanates a warm, honeyed white glow, soft and diffused rather than harsh, creating the quality of illumination one might associate with candlelight translated into modern form. Behind the lamp, occupying approximately two-thirds of the background, hangs deeply gathered velvet drapery in a rich chocolate brown, its vertical folds catching and releasing the lamp's glow in subtle gradations from deep shadow in the recesses to warm highlights on the ridges. To the left, a matte wall surface in pale grey-beige provides neutral counterpoint. The floor beneath extends in smooth, cool taupe tones, with gentle shadows cast by the tripod legs spreading softly outward. The overall atmosphere suggests refined contemporary interior spaces, quiet and sophisticated, where the lamp serves as both functional illumination and contemplative sculptural presence.

The idea of the collection is to combine the traditions of ancient crafts with modern technology. This floor lamp combines knitting, which is one of the oldest types of arts and crafts, with innovations in light emitting diodes. The metal construction of the lamp resembles the interweaving of spokes during the knitting process, and the luminous flexible cord resembles woolen threads. When designing this collection, special attention was paid to the shape of the luminous cord so that it had the shape of an oval. This approach made it possible to create a floor lamp of a unique shape.
