Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

A museum exhibition hall unfolds before you, dominated by an extraordinary ceiling installation that fills your awareness with soft, dappled light in shades of spring green, golden yellow, and hints of warm amber, reminiscent of sunlight filtering through dense forest foliage on a bright morning. This luminous canopy stretches across the entire ceiling, supported by dark steel structural elements that branch upward like stylized tree trunks, splitting into multiple limbs as they reach toward the glowing membrane above. The space feels both grand and intimate, with cool white surfaces below contrasting the warm organic tones overhead. Moving to the upper left portion of the space, the head and tusks of a mammoth emerge dramatically, its trunk curving downward in a gentle arc while two magnificent curved tusks sweep outward in creamy ivory tones against warm brown textured hide, creating a powerful presence that commands attention. The central corridor stretches before you with smooth gray terrazzo flooring, flanked on both sides by angular white exhibition platforms with clean geometric facets, rising at various heights to present specimens at optimal viewing positions. These plinths feel crisp and cool, like freshly cut paper or polished stone. At the corridor's end, a glowing rectangular portal in soft azure blue draws the eye forward, suggesting passage to additional galleries. To the right, suspended above the display cases, the pale skeletal remains of what appears to be a whale extend horizontally, its elongated form creating rhythmic linear patterns of bone against the luminous ceiling. Tall windows with classical proportions line the perimeter walls, their frames painted white, with warm golden light glowing from interior rooms beyond. A solitary visitor stands in the middle distance, providing human scale to this expansive space, their winter jacket suggesting comfortable indoor temperatures despite the cool visual palette.

Naturkundemuseum Stuttgart re-opened its two central exhibition halls dedicated to the overarching themes of evolution and biodiversity. In Evolution Creates Diversity, six thematic islands with spectacular specimens radiate around a central media table where visitors explore evolutionary concepts, while Immersion in Diversity immerses visitors in a captivating underwater environment exploring the topic of marine biodiversity.
