Park Wellstate Nishiazabu Senior Residence

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

This is an architectural photograph in portrait orientation depicting a contemporary high-rise residential building designed for senior living, captured from ground level looking upward through a frame of spring trees. Beginning at the bottom of the composition and moving upward, the immediate foreground contains the trunks and lower branches of deciduous trees, their bark appearing gray-brown and their fresh spring leaves displaying a bright yellow-green color like the first growth of early spring, translucent where sunlight passes through. These trees occupy roughly the left third and portions of the right edge of the frame, their branches extending across the upper corners to create a natural canopy framing the architecture. In the middle ground, approximately one-third up from the bottom, lower building structures appear on both left and right sides. These podium buildings feature stone-clad columns in warm gray tones, suggesting polished granite or limestone, supporting deep overhanging roofs finished in a warm honey-brown material resembling cedar wood planking. The surfaces appear smooth and refined, suggesting high-quality construction. Large windows with dark frames punctuate these lower structures. Rising from behind and between these podium elements, the main residential tower dominates the center and right portion of the composition. This tower ascends dramatically, approximately twenty-five to thirty stories tall, finished in alternating bands of silver-gray metal cladding and dark glass windows creating a rhythmic horizontal pattern. The tower's form tapers slightly at the top, crowned by a warm wood-toned cornice element that echoes the timber details below. The sky beyond occupies roughly half the total image area, displaying a rich cerulean blue scattered with soft white cumulus clouds that suggest fair weather. Natural daylight appears to come from an elevated position, creating soft, even illumination across building surfaces while producing gentle shadows beneath the tree canopy. The overall atmosphere feels serene, fresh, and welcoming, suggesting a harmonious relationship between architecture and nature.

This is a residence for seniors aged 65 and over in Japan, where the population is rapidly aging. Although it is located in the densely populated city center of Tokyo, there are few tall buildings in the surrounding area, so residents can enjoy views of the night view and distant mountains from the 125m high-rise building. As the elderly residents spend most of their lives on the premises, a living environment has been created in which they can experience greenery, water, light, and wind, and feel the changes of nature.
