Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025
The photograph presents a standing male figure positioned in the right-center portion of a horizontal landscape format, photographed from approximately waist level looking slightly upward, creating dignified presence against expansive natural setting. The figure wears a distinctive coat featuring bold geometric color zones: moving from viewer's left to right, the garment begins with bright off-white or cream fabric covering the left shoulder and upper chest area, this light zone occupying roughly one-quarter of the coat's visible front. Adjacent to this, darker charcoal gray fabric creates a transitional zone across the mid-chest and upper-right torso. The right side of the coat and continuing downward features deep black fabric, this darkest zone extending from right shoulder down through the right side and forming the coat's lower portions. A prominent wide belt crafted from dark textured fabric, appearing woven or felted with visible surface texture, wraps horizontally around the figure's natural waist, cinched with apparent firmness and creating strong horizontal accent roughly one-third up from the image bottom. Beneath the coat's dramatic collar, a fitted black turtleneck rises smoothly to jaw level, its fine knit texture contrasting with the coat's more substantial weight. The coat's collar itself stands tall and pronounced, enveloping the neck and extending outward in angular planes, the right side constructed in matching black while maintaining the geometric color story. The coat's overall silhouette reads as structured yet comfortable, falling to approximately mid-thigh length with substantial volume through the body that tapers slightly toward hem. The figure's face presents frontal orientation with direct outward gaze meeting viewer's eye level, pale complexion, defined features, dark hair styled upward and back with volume and grooming products creating sculptural shape. The immediate foreground extending from bottom edge to approximately one-third image height consists of dense dried grasses in warm tones suggesting late autumn or early winter dormancy: golden tan, wheat, amber, and pale straw colors creating textured ground that rises to knee height around the figure. These grasses appear brittle and dry, some stalks catching subtle light while others fall into shadow, creating varied surface reading like brushstrokes in warm earth pigments. The middle ground, occupying the horizontal band behind the figure from roughly waist level to shoulders, continues the meadow character with more dried vegetation, several weathered fence posts visible as dark vertical elements slightly left of center, and thin bare saplings or young trees with delicate branch structures reaching upward, their light brown bark and empty branches suggesting winter dormancy. The far background spanning the upper third of the composition presents dense forest, appearing as solid dark mass of evergreen conifers rendered in deep olive green, near-black, and cool gray tones, creating horizontal band that extends across full image width and provides tonal anchor. Above this forest, the uppermost image zone shows overcast sky in pale cool gray, its even tonality suggesting diffused cloud cover filtering sunlight into soft ambient illumination. The overall lighting bathes the scene in gentle, even luminosity without harsh shadows, the diffused quality suggesting northern latitude or overcast weather conditions, creating sense of cool freshness in the air temperature as if winter approaches. Colors throughout register as slightly muted or desaturated, lending timeless quality and emphasizing form and texture over chromatic intensity. The composition balances the strong vertical presence of the standing figure against the horizontal bands of landscape, meadow, and forest, creating stable architectural structure. The scene conveys quiet dignity, contemplative solitude, and harmonious coexistence between designed garment and natural environment, inviting consideration of material choices, seasonal cycles, and sustainable design philosophy made visible through the coat's substantial presence within dormant yet beautiful landscape setting.
While it is possible to explore almost every corner of the Earth on computer screens, is it possible to rediscover the world? This collection is inspired by receding views of Earth, where buildings, streets, and cars fade, leaving only geometrized contours. Coats made from sewing industry waste, it leads a new sustainable aesthetic. The textures of the fabrics resemble shifting landscapes, like maps seen from above, urging reflection on sustainability and global political tensions. The coat symbolizes warmth, offering refuge against life’s fragility and the uncertainty of changing world.
