Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
This audio description presents a tall interior space approximately six stories in height, formatted as a vertical rectangular view looking down a long corridor-like atrium. Beginning overhead, the ceiling consists of warm honey-colored wood panels arranged in horizontal strips, reminiscent of light maple or oak with a smooth, polished quality that would feel satiny to the touch. Embedded within these panels, four parallel lines of cool white light create gentle horizontal bands that guide the eye deeper into the space. Moving downward along the left side, multiple levels of walkways or balconies project inward, their undersides clad in grey perforated metal with a texture like fine mesh, industrial yet refined. The word "INSPIRE" appears in large dimensional letters—each perhaps two feet tall—mounted on a grey wall surface, the letters appearing to be a soft warm grey that catches ambient light. Continuing toward the rear of the space, the most striking element emerges: an enormous wall finished in the same warm honey wood tone, upon which an installation of oversized clockwork components is mounted. These gleaming metallic elements—circular gears with visible teeth, spiral mainsprings, and intricate mechanical linkages—appear to be finished in polished brass with golden warmth and brushed silver with cooler luminosity. The largest gear spans perhaps fifteen feet in diameter. In the foreground at floor level, a sculptural installation features what appears to be robotic arms supporting angular digital display screens showing vivid cobalt blue imagery, creating striking contrast against the warm surroundings. The floor presents as smooth polished concrete in cool grey tones. Two figures in light summer clothing walk together in the lower left, their presence establishing that this space soars many stories above human scale. Natural daylight enters abundantly through floor-to-ceiling windows along the right wall, creating soft diffused illumination throughout.
This project relates to the interior design of teaching buildings. In light of the characteristics of academic disciplines, the versatility and adaptability of the spaces are achieved through flexible furniture arrangements and adjustable configurations. The selection of colors, materials, and artwork contributes to an academic ambiance for each building. This design seeks to encourage an open and collaborative learning environment for teachers and students.
