Iron A' Design Award Winner 2025
A sweeping band of warm stone-colored concrete curves through a lush green landscape, creating a sculptural amphitheater that dominates the center of the view, its form resembling a giant ribbon or wave that has been carefully folded and shaped to embrace an open circular performance area below. Beginning with overall orientation, this scene depicts a contemporary architectural structure photographed from an elevated viewpoint, allowing you to look down into the amphitheater from roughly 20 to 30 degrees above the horizontal plane, as if viewing from a second or third-story vantage point, the overall composition stretching across a landscape format approximately twice as wide as it is tall. The sky occupies the upper third of the image, presenting as a clear, luminous blue that feels open and airy, the kind of brilliant tropical or subtropical sky that suggests warm sunshine and pleasant weather, this blue gradually lightening toward the horizon where it meets a dense line of mature trees forming a dark green textural band across the background. Moving into the middle distance, a row of contemporary residential buildings appears as white and brown geometric blocks with regular rectangular windows, these structures sitting low on the horizon and establishing a sense of surrounding neighborhood or planned community, their clean modernist lines echoing the architectural language of the amphitheater itself. Descending toward the foreground, the amphitheater structure itself commands attention through its bold curving form, the main architectural element consisting of a thick ribbon-like wall approximately 15 to 20 feet tall that sweeps in a powerful arc from the left side of the composition, curving inward and around to create a partial circle that embraces and protects a sunken central area. The surface of this curved wall displays prominent horizontal banding, imagine running your hand across it and feeling regular ridges or grooves approximately every foot or so, these bands creating a rhythmic texture that catches light and shadow, the overall color suggesting smooth concrete or stone in warm sandy beige tones that shift subtly from lighter cream where direct sunlight strikes to deeper terra cotta or ochre in shadowed recesses, the warmth comparable to sun-baked limestone or aged sandstone. The upper edge of this curved wall remains level and clean, tracing a precise horizontal line against the sky, while the lower portion steps outward slightly, creating a protective overhang or colonnade space underneath, this covered area appearing as a darker shadowed zone that offers refuge from direct sun. Following the curve downward and inward, the interior amphitheater space reveals itself as a sunken bowl containing several distinct zones: a large circular area of rich green grass occupies much of the center, this lawn surface appearing soft and manicured, surrounded by paved walkways in warm gray or tan tones that might feel smooth and slightly warm underfoot, like heated concrete on a sunny day. Several small human figures are visible throughout the scene, these people appearing tiny at this distance, perhaps only an inch or two tall if you could reach into the image, their presence establishing the monumental scale of the architecture, some figures stroll casually along the curved upper walkway while others gather in small groups on the lawn or sit on what appear to be built-in stone benches, their relaxed postures and scattered distribution suggesting leisurely afternoon activities in a welcoming public space. To the right side of the amphitheater, a separate section features distinctive bright green striped terracing, these bold geometric bands of grass creating a striking visual pattern like giant green steps or stadium seating ascending the slope, this verdant section contrasting dramatically with the stone surfaces and suggesting a more informal grass seating area for spectators. Throughout the composition, vegetation plays an important supporting role: mature trees with full, rounded canopies create organic sculptural forms that soften the architecture's geometric precision, these trees casting dappled shadows and appearing as deep forest green masses with irregular textures that contrast with the smooth architectural surfaces, while several tall, slender palm trees add vertical accents, their distinctive silhouettes suggesting tropical or subtropical climate, these palms appearing at various points like exclamation marks punctuating the horizontal flow of the design. The lighting throughout the scene feels bright and clear, direct sunlight coming from above and slightly behind your viewpoint, creating short, crisp shadows that fall beneath horizontal elements and defining the three-dimensional form of the architecture through strong highlights on horizontal surfaces and deeper shadows under overhangs and in recessed areas, this quality of illumination suggesting late morning or early afternoon in a location with strong sun, the shadows remaining transparent enough that details remain visible even in shaded zones, nothing disappearing into impenetrable darkness. The overall atmosphere conveys openness, warmth, and invitation, the combination of bold contemporary architecture, lush green landscape, bright sunshine, and casually positioned people creating a sense of accessible public space designed for community gathering, outdoor performance, and leisurely social interaction in a privileged subtropical setting.
The amphitheater design is formed by two half-buried buildings which allocate the golf course services in one of them, and an open air cultural activities venue in the other one. Both buildings are linked at the roof top level with a pedestrian ring and outdoor terraces. At the bottom level, the clubhouse rooms and stores terraces have access to the natural water stream which divides the buildings. The building circular shape is the distinctive element of the development, and will be the cultural meeting point for the residents and visitors.
