Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025
Three pendant light fixtures hang suspended at varying heights and angles against a warm, graduated brown background that transitions from slightly cooler tones at the top to richer, earthier warmth toward the bottom, establishing an intimate, enveloping spatial environment. Beginning at the upper left and scanning across and downward through the composition, the first fixture angles diagonally from upper left toward lower right, composed of multiple parallel tubular elements bundled closely together, approximately six to eight tubes creating a unified linear form roughly two feet in length. These tubes emit a warm, glowing amber light from within, the color reminiscent of honey backlit by afternoon sun or the soft glow of antique Edison bulbs, creating gentle illumination that feels inviting and tactile, as though one could feel its warmth on skin. At the left terminus of this first fixture, a spherical connector in deep burgundy or wine-dark brown anchors the tubes, its surface appearing smooth like polished wood or glazed ceramic, catching subtle highlights that suggest gentle curvature. A slender black suspension cable rises from this sphere toward the upper frame edge, providing both structural support and visual linearity. Moving to the center of the composition, a second fixture crosses from upper right descending toward center-left, oriented at an opposing diagonal to create dynamic spatial tension. This central element features the same bundled tubular construction with warm internal glow, but terminates at both ends with spherical nodes, the right side presenting a burgundy sphere similar to the first fixture while the left terminus displays a slightly different tone, perhaps deeper mahogany or reddish-brown with earthy warmth. These spheres feel substantial, roughly the size of small oranges or large plums, creating visual weight that balances the linear lightness of the tubes. In the lower left portion of the composition, a third fixture echoes the orientation of the first, angling from left toward lower right, again featuring the characteristic bundled tubes glowing with that consistent amber warmth that suggests cozy interior spaces, late evening contemplation, or the quality of light in artisan workshops. The textural quality throughout suggests smooth, possibly matte or low-sheen surfaces on the tubes, which appear almost soft despite being solid, while the spherical connectors present slightly more reflectivity, their surfaces catching and concentrating light. The overall lighting creates minimal harsh shadows, instead producing gentle ambient glow that dissipates gradually into the surrounding brown atmosphere, establishing an environment that feels both grounded and slightly suspended, intimate yet spacious, industrial in reference yet deeply humanized through material warmth and careful proportional relationships.
It found that the sense of multiple arrays evokes a familiar feeling in East Asian culture, reflected in items like water wheels, tea brushes, scrolls, bamboo blinds, fans, and lantern frameworks. These complex, geometric forms repeat in lines, inspiring the creation of the elongated Churros lamp. The new old tube light. Churros combines the warmth of wooden strips with minimalist order, creating volume and offering both upward and downward light, providing even illumination and enhancing spatial layering.
