Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025
Upon entering this reception space, you find yourself within a contemporary interior characterized by an immediate impression of brightness, cleanliness, and geometric order, the overall environment reading as spacious with generous ceiling height and balanced proportions. The floor beneath consists of large white marble tiles with a highly polished, reflective surface that feels smooth and cool like glass, these tiles exhibiting subtle grey veining in soft organic patterns reminiscent of clouds or gentle water currents, the polished finish creating mirror-like reflections that subtly double the visual elements above. Scanning from foreground to background, the composition begins in the immediate foreground with two symmetrically positioned seating clusters, each comprising a pair of low lounge chairs upholstered in white fabric that appears soft as fresh cotton, with clean contemporary lines and visible metal legs, positioned at slight angles to create conversational groupings. Between each pair of chairs sits a low rectangular side table in warm metallic finish, brushed brass or champagne gold that would feel smooth and slightly cool to the touch, introducing warm amber tones into the otherwise cool color scheme. Moving to the middle ground, the dominant architectural feature is a custom reception desk positioned centrally on axis with the room's perspective, this desk constructed from the same white marble as the flooring but articulated as a geometric sculptural form with faceted angular planes that create dimensional interest through their interplay of flat and angled surfaces, the marble veining adding natural organic detail across these crisp geometric forms. The desk appears substantial and grounded, its scale suggesting solidity and permanence. Behind this central desk, a vertical wall surface also clad in white marble rises to meet the ceiling, this backdrop featuring architectural detailing or signage that anchors the reception point. Flanking the central axis on both left and right sides, the perimeter walls are treated with floor-to-ceiling horizontal louvered systems composed of narrow slats in warm neutral tones ranging from pale blonde wood suggesting smooth sanded timber to soft grey, these stacked horizontal elements creating a ribbed texture like fine corduroy fabric or tightly spaced Venetian blinds, the layering suggesting depth and dimensional relief while diffusing light that appears to filter from behind, creating a gentle glow warm as afternoon sunlight filtered through sheer curtains. Overhead, the ceiling plane demonstrates sophisticated geometric articulation with alternating bands of deep charcoal black and bright white running perpendicular to the main sightline, the black bands appearing as bold linear elements perhaps two feet wide that frame recessed white sections housing integrated linear lighting fixtures, these creating even, shadow-free illumination that feels bright but not harsh, comparable to well-lit gallery spaces or upscale retail environments. The black ceiling bands provide strong visual rhythm and directional emphasis, pulling the eye deeper into the space along the central axis. The background, visible through the central corridor defined by these architectural elements, suggests the space continues beyond the reception area into further interior zones, maintaining similar material and lighting treatments. The overall lighting combines this overhead integrated system with the diffused glow from behind the louvered perimeter walls, creating ambient luminosity that feels balanced and comfortable, warm in tone like late morning sunlight indoors, approximately 3000 Kelvin temperature suggesting neither clinical coolness nor intimate warmth but a professional welcoming middle range. The environment suggests stillness and quiet, the hard polished surfaces potentially creating acoustic clarity while the textured louvered walls likely provide some sound absorption, the space reading as serene and calm, designed to convey both medical professionalism through its cleanliness and geometric precision and aesthetic sophistication through its material quality and compositional refinement.
The interior design creates a unique blend of modern elegance and soothing ambiance, transforming a clinical space into a welcoming sanctuary. Inspired by Healing Spaces, the design prioritizes patient comfort and wellbeing, seamlessly integrating functionality and aesthetic appeal. The use of natural materials, strategic lighting, and biophilic elements evoke a sense of tranquility, while the thoughtful layout and workflow cater to the needs of both patients and staff.
