Woodfire Collection Tableware

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025

Scanning from background to foreground, this image presents a horizontal rectangular photograph of tableware arranged upon a wooden surface against a dark backdrop. The background consists of a smooth, deep charcoal-gray wall with the warmth of slate or storm cloud, occupying the upper third of the composition and establishing a quiet, neutral field against which all objects gain prominence. Emerging from behind the rightmost vessel grouping, a single delicate dried branch with bare twigs extends upward and rightward into this dark space, its color a pale tan like dried grass or wheat straw. The middle ground is dominated by a substantial live-edge wooden plank table or board that extends the full width of the image, its surface displaying pronounced horizontal grain patterns in warm honey-brown tones suggesting aged oak or similar hardwood, the wood feeling weathered and smooth as driftwood long handled. Along the lower boundary, the natural live edge reveals irregular organic contours and exposed root structure in deeper brown-red tones, creating a rugged silhouette against the black void beneath. Upon this wooden surface, ceramic vessels are arranged in three groupings across the horizontal span. At left, occupying roughly one-third of the composition width, a cluster of shallow bowls and plates in graduated sizes are stacked and arranged, their surfaces displaying warm earth tones ranging from pale ochre like wild honey to deeper burnt sienna like autumn leaves, the surfaces appearing smooth yet with subtle tonal variations suggesting handcrafted character. Beneath this grouping, a softly folded ivory linen napkin with the texture of fine cotton canvas provides a pale accent. At center, a tall wine goblet of clear crystal rises vertically, its bowl transparent and catching soft highlights, its stem slender, its base circular and stable, the glass feeling cool and precisely smooth. At right, additional ceramic bowls are arranged including one with a cream-white interior like fresh milk against its warm exterior. Light falls gently from the upper left, creating soft gradations across curved surfaces and casting subtle shadows rightward, the overall illumination suggesting late afternoon warmth. The mood is one of quiet sophistication and appreciation for natural materials and handcrafted forms.

From the silky rich soil of Dehua, China, emerges Woodfire, a new bone series inspired by the raw beauty of fired wood. Drawing from the timeless elegance of wood, each piece is a unique work of art that embodies the strength of fire-kissed timber. Woodfire captures the warmth and rustic charm of a cozy fireplace. The collection comes to life through a handcrafted, two-part reactive glaze that creates unique, organic patterns mimicking the effect of fire on wood. Presented in two rich colors, Dark Oak and Antique Pine, each exuding bold character as if reborn through the trial of fire.
