Verona Version2 Custom Cabinet

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

The space presents a contemporary residential interior featuring an expansive custom wall system that spans the full width and height of the visible area, establishing the room's architectural character and functional organization. Beginning with spatial orientation, the wall system occupies the background plane extending perhaps twelve to fifteen feet horizontally and reaching from floor to ceiling approximately nine to ten feet in height, composed of distinct horizontal layers that create clear functional zones progressing from bottom to top. At floor level, a low horizontal cabinet in deep charcoal gray, nearly black, spans the composition's width, appearing smooth and matte with a substantial presence, its surface cool to the touch one imagines, like fine powder-coated metal or lacquered wood, rising perhaps two feet from the floor. Directly above this base cabinet, the middle section contains the primary functional elements organized in three vertical segments, the left and right sections feature glass-fronted display cabinets with transparent panels revealing interior shelving illuminated by warm glowing light the color of candlelight or sunset, approximately 2700 Kelvin in warmth, this amber illumination creates a welcoming glow against the darker surrounding surfaces, each vitrine cabinet contains three or four horizontal shelves displaying various objects including rounded sculptural forms, vessels, and small decorative pieces that catch the light with subtle gleams suggesting ceramic, glass, or polished stone surfaces. The central vertical section contains a recessed rectangular opening, dark and non-reflective, appearing as a void or screen approximately four feet wide by two and a half feet tall, positioned for optimal viewing from seated positions in the foreground, directly above this dark rectangle hangs a small square artwork or textile piece with a light background and bold dark gestural marks creating organic contrast against the geometric surroundings. Behind and framing all these elements extends a field of vertical ribbing in warm taupe, the color of natural linen or sand, these narrow vertical strips perhaps two inches wide create a rhythmic linear texture across the entire wall surface like architectural fluting or contemporary acoustic paneling, their regular repetition producing a sense of movement and visual warmth, the surface would feel ridged under one's fingers, alternating between smooth raised strips and recessed channels. The uppermost zone features open shelving integrated into the same dark charcoal framework, these compartments contain books arranged both vertically spine-out and in small stacks, their neutral tones predominantly cream, beige, and pale gray suggesting a curated collection, running horizontally across the wall just below these book shelves, a continuous strip of warm LED lighting creates a glowing amber line that visually separates the upper storage from the middle display and media zones while providing soft ambient illumination. Above everything, a curved architectural element in soft cream white creates a floating canopy effect, smooth and sculptural like a shallow dome or wave, its surface would feel cool and seamless, this organic form contrasts beautifully with the linear geometry below, suggesting clouds or sky, diffused light emanates from this upper zone creating gentle overall illumination that washes down across the wall system without harsh shadows. Moving to the foreground, the lower portion of the frame shows residential furnishing including a generous modular sectional sofa upholstered in pale taupe fabric that appears soft and inviting like brushed linen or wool, its cushions substantial and relaxed suggesting comfort, to the right appears a textured armchair with vertical ribbing that echoes the wall's linear rhythm, its frame appearing in darker tones creating visual connection between furniture and architecture, a low dark coffee table sits before the sofa displaying a few books and objects suggesting casual inhabited elegance, beneath everything, flooring appears in warm neutral tones with subtle texture suggesting refined stone, polished concrete, or large-format porcelain tile. The overall lighting condition feels warm and intimate like evening with artificial illumination creating pools of amber glow within the vitrine cabinets, the continuous LED stripe adding ambient warmth, and diffused overhead illumination from the curved soffit providing gentle overall visibility without harsh contrast, shadows remain soft and subtle, surfaces neither overly bright nor dim but carefully balanced to create welcoming atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and comfortable, the temperature of the space reads as warm and enveloping despite the predominance of neutrals, achieved through the amber-toned lighting and the warm taupe ribbing that prevents the dark cabinetry from feeling cold or severe.
