Silver A' Design Award Winner 2025
This sculptural calendar object rises from a dark horizontal surface against a neutral gray backdrop, presenting a vertical metallic stand approximately the height of a table lamp from which numerous thin metal strips radiate outward in all directions like sunbeams or the spokes of a wheel viewed from the side. Scanning from the base upward, a rectangular platform in brushed silver metal sits firmly on what appears to be a charcoal-colored desk or shelf surface, providing stable foundation for the slender vertical column that rises from its center. This central spine, finished in the same cool silver aluminum, bears graduated markings and text along its length, with a darker inset channel running vertically and a small sliding indicator element. At approximately two-thirds up the column, the radial arms emerge from a central hub, spreading outward in a complete circle that extends roughly the same distance in all directions, creating an overall composition resembling a metallic sunburst or abstract tree. The thirty-one individual arms are flat rectangular strips of brushed aluminum, each perhaps the length of a hand, extending at precise angular intervals to create even spacing around the full circumference. Each arm bears small perforations and raised numerals indicating dates from one through thirty-one. Scattered along these arms are small spherical beads, each roughly the size of a marble, in three distinct colors: pure white like fresh snow, warm cream like aged ivory, and vivid red like ripe cherries. These spheres can apparently slide along their respective arms, their varying positions creating an irregular pattern of colored dots across the silver starburst. The overall color temperature feels cool and industrial, dominated by the silver-gray aluminum with temperature contrasts provided by the warm-toned spheres. The lighting is soft and even, suggesting diffused overhead illumination that reveals the matte metallic surfaces without harsh reflections, creating gentle shadows beneath the protruding arms. The background graduates smoothly from warmer taupe tones near the base to cooler gray above, framing the sculptural object with gallery-like neutrality. The tactile impression suggests smooth cool metal that would feel precisely machined under fingertips, with the spheres offering warmer, perhaps slightly textured surfaces for grip during adjustment.
Syn is an innovative calendar/ monthly planner featuring a unique layout for various and universal time intervals. It is designed as a mechanical, three dimensional planner that assists people in organizing tasks and events without using a digital application. Inspired by the philosophy of Lo Tek Design, it optimizes the use of a physical calendar, providing more detailed information. The structure design adapted the pattern of time, making it universal to any month and day. It can assist in tracking and recording events over a comfortable length of time.
