Rococo Memory Residential

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

Picture yourself entering a residential living room where refined architectural detailing frames comfortable contemporary furnishings, creating a space that feels both formally elegant and warmly inviting, measuring perhaps fifteen feet wide by twenty feet deep with ceiling height reaching approximately ten feet enhanced by detailed architectural treatment that draws the eye upward. Overhead stretches an elaborate coffered ceiling finished in pristine white, imagine touching cool smooth painted millwork, where rectangular recessed panels march in ordered rows across the ceiling plane creating a geometric grid pattern, each coffer framed by raised molding profiles perhaps three inches wide that cast delicate shadows defining the architectural rhythm, and within several coffers small round recessed lights glow with soft warm illumination like scattered stars, while descending along the room's central axis hangs a six-armed chandelier, its bronzed metal frame perhaps three feet in diameter supporting cream-colored fabric shades that diffuse warm golden light downward, the fixture hanging approximately seven feet above the floor so it hovers at a comfortable height above the seating area below. The left wall captures immediate attention with its decorative wallcovering in rich golden ochre, imagine the color of honey or aged parchment, across which delicate botanical motifs spread in an intricate pattern, slender branches in soft gray-brown curve and intertwine bearing leaves and blossoms rendered in muted purple, dusty rose, and sage green creating an overall impression like a misty garden captured on silk, the pattern suggesting traditional hand-painted panels though executed in contemporary wallcovering, and this ornamental wall extends from floor to ceiling framed by white painted moldings that create a giant rectangular panel perhaps twelve feet wide. Moving rightward and scanning the foreground, a generous sectional sofa upholstered in pale ivory fabric, soft as brushed cotton to imagine touching, curves in an L-configuration filling the left portion of the room, its cushions deep and inviting with subtle tufting creating gentle depressions across the seat and back surfaces, and scattered abundantly across this neutral foundation rests a collection of perhaps fifteen decorative pillows in coordinating colors, some in dusty rose with embroidered floral details you might trace with fingertips, others in deeper burgundy velvet that would feel plush and slightly cool, still others in cream and taupe with damask patterns creating subtle texture, the overall effect suggesting layered domestic comfort and sophisticated textile curation. Before this sofa arrangement sits a circular occasional table, its top perhaps thirty inches in diameter appearing to be clear glass smooth and cool reflecting light from above, supported by a metal base in warm bronzed finish, and upon this table rests a low arrangement of fresh flowers in soft pink and white tones clustered in a dark vessel, the flowers suggesting peonies or hydrangeas with their rounded clustered form, and beside this a small decorative tray holds additional objects at a scale too small to detail but contributing to the curated surface composition. The room's central focus draws your attention forward to a bay window composition where three tall window panels fitted with white horizontal louvered shutters filter incoming daylight, each shutter perhaps six feet tall composed of narrow horizontal slats that allow light to pass through in soft diffused bands creating a luminous quality like an overcast sky, warm white in color temperature but reading cooler than the interior's golden artificial lighting, and through the gaps between slats you glimpse exterior views showing cool blue-gray tones suggesting either overcast sky or distant foliage. Built into the wall beneath these windows extends a custom window seat upholstered to match the room's palette, its cushion in soft rose fabric perhaps eight feet long providing additional seating elevated slightly above the floor level, dressed with coordinating pillows in cream and rose creating a intimate reading nook or conversation spot bathed in natural light, the seat's base featuring white paneled millwork continuing the room's classical architectural vocabulary. The right wall contains built-in cabinetry and a fireplace surround, all executed in matching white painted millwork, imagine smooth semi-gloss painted surfaces cool to touch, the media cabinet featuring closed lower storage with recessed panel doors flanked by decorative pilasters, narrow vertical columns with subtle capital and base details suggesting simplified classical orders, and the upper portion open with shelving displaying a large flat-screen television, its black screen reading as a dark void within the white framework, and upon the shelves decorative objects including what appears to be a large vase or vessel in deep blue or black, branches of dried or sculptural plant material creating vertical accents, and various sculptural forms contributing to the curated display, while to the right a fireplace opening framed by substantial white-painted surround with classical profile moldings presents a dark interior, its mantel shelf supporting additional decorative objects including tall candlesticks catching light. Beneath all this furnished activity spreads the floor in cream and light brown tones arranged in a geometric checkerboard or basketweave pattern, imagine cool smooth stone or porcelain tile beneath your feet, each square perhaps twelve inches across alternating between pale cream suggesting limestone and warmer taupe suggesting travertine, the geometric pattern establishing visual rhythm and providing neutral ground that unifies the diverse elements above while its regular geometry echoes the ceiling's coffered organization. The overall atmosphere suggests midday or early afternoon given the quality of natural light filtering through the shutters, the season perhaps spring or summer based on the fresh floral arrangements and the light quality, and the room temperature feeling comfortable and controlled by modern climate systems, while the air seems still and quiet suggesting residential tranquility removed from urban noise, and if you could smell this space you might detect subtle floral fragrance from the fresh arrangements and perhaps the faint scent of fine textiles and clean surfaces that characterizes well-maintained residential interiors, the overall sensory impression one of refined comfort, visual harmony, and domestic serenity where every surface and object contributes to an orchestrated environment designed for gracious living and aesthetic pleasure.

This renovation traces the owner's journey from childhood to maturity. During the pandemic, she redefined her childhood home into a shared space for three generations, herself, her father, and her children. With a background as a flight attendant and a deep appreciation for European architecture, she infused the design with Baroque and Rococo influences, complemented by contemporary art. The result is a refined yet inviting home, balancing the grandeur of a resort with the warmth of family life.
