Moroccan Elegance Residential House

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

A sunlit residential living area unfolds before you, revealing a carefully composed contemporary interior where warm natural materials and neutral tones create an atmosphere of serene elegance and thoughtful design integration, with the space organized to guide your mental construction from left to right across its generous breadth and from foreground through successive spatial layers into background depth. Beginning at the left edge, a white plastered wall curves gently inward, its smooth surface punctuated by three horizontal walnut shelves that project outward at staggered heights, their organic wood grain visible even from this distance, with the lowest shelf positioned perhaps one-fifth up from the floor, the middle shelf slightly higher, and the uppermost shelf reaching approximately mid-wall height, while just above these shelves a warm amber glow emanates from a recessed accent light, its soft radiance suggesting the gentle warmth of candlelight on skin. This curved wall section defines a threshold opening into an adjacent space, creating visual depth and spatial connectivity that invites movement through the domestic program. Moving rightward into the central zone, the middle ground presents a remarkable walnut storage wall system composed of geometric compartments arranged in a rhythmic grid pattern, the wood exhibiting rich chestnut brown tones with pronounced darker grain lines that create visual texture as intricate as fine wood carving might feel to trailing fingertips, with approximately fifteen to twenty individual cubic and rectangular compartments of varying depths creating a play of light and shadow across their interior surfaces, some compartments appearing as deep voids while others catch illumination on their back planes, the overall effect suggesting both functional storage capacity and sculptural architectural presence. Just forward of this storage wall sits an elegant three-legged side table crafted from the same warm walnut material, its curved organic top suggesting the yielding surface of water-smoothed stone or naturally weathered wood, positioned at approximately knee height and occupying roughly one-eighth of the composition's width, upon which rests a dark ceramic vessel holding an explosion of fresh flowers in saturated magenta and crimson tones, these vivid blooms providing the space's most concentrated color accent and suggesting the velvet-soft texture of rose petals against cool glazed pottery. Progressing rightward, the foreground is anchored by a substantial low-profile sofa upholstered in cream leather or high-quality fabric, its color reminiscent of fresh heavy cream or pale sand warmed by afternoon sun, the sofa's horizontal form occupying roughly one-third of the composition's width and its clean modernist lines suggesting the kind of firm yet comfortable seating that supports the body with gentle resistance, neither hard as wood nor yielding as down, with subtle shadowing beneath revealing its elevation above the floor on minimal legs or a recessed plinth base. The floor throughout features wide planks of pale natural wood, their linear grain suggesting smooth coolness underfoot like sanded beach wood, mostly covered in the central area by a handwoven textile floor covering in deep burgundy, wine, and rust tones with geometric patterning and an organic fringe along its nearer edge, this textile's appearance suggesting the kind of substantial weight and slight surface irregularity characteristic of artisan hand-weaving, as textured as coarse linen and warm as wool. The ceiling above commands attention through its bold architectural articulation, where smooth pale plaster is interrupted by dark walnut beams and channels that cut diagonal and perpendicular paths across the overhead plane, some beams perhaps eight inches wide creating strong linear emphasis, while narrow recessed channels housing linear LED lighting strips contribute both illumination and graphic definition, the overall ceiling composition suggesting a carefully orchestrated geometric abstraction overhead that activates what might otherwise remain an unnoticed surface. Dominating the right portion of the composition, an expansive picture window framed in dark material extends from roughly waist height to near the ceiling line, flooding the interior with natural daylight that carries the soft diffused quality of a slightly hazy or humid afternoon, neither the harsh brilliance of direct sun nor the flat gray of heavy overcast but rather a luminous warmth suggesting air temperature in the comfortable range where neither heating nor cooling would be necessary, while through this large glazed opening appears a verdant hillside thick with trees and vegetation in multiple shades of green from pale spring leaf to deep forest shadow, suggesting lush growth sustained by regular moisture and creating a living natural backdrop that contrasts with and complements the cultivated interior geometry. On the windowsill sits a smaller dark vessel, while a decorative wall sconce with visible bulb mounts to the wall beside the window, providing accent lighting for evening hours. The overall illumination combines this generous natural daylight entering from the right with the ambient ceiling fixtures and linear LED channels, creating even soft-edged lighting throughout without harsh shadows or strong directional contrast, the light quality remaining consistently warm and inviting, suggesting a space designed for both active daytime use and comfortable evening occupation. The atmosphere conveys stillness and quietude, an implied sense of calm domestic order where surfaces are uncluttered, circulation remains open and unobstructed, and each element occupies its place within a coherent spatial and aesthetic logic, inviting mental construction of a home environment where inhabitants might find both social gathering space around the central furniture arrangement and opportunities for solitary rest with a book on the comfortable sofa or contemplative viewing of the natural landscape through the generous window opening.
