This horizontal format illustration depicts a traditional fire festival scene featuring multiple figures carrying large blazing torches. Scanning from left to right across the composition, the viewer encounters three main groupings of activity against a clean white background. Beginning at the left, a single figure dressed in deep blue clothing carries a substantial cylindrical torch horizontally, the bundled straw construction visible through horizontal binding lines in warm tan and brown tones. Above this torch explodes a magnificent display of stylized flames in warm sunset colors, predominantly rich orange like ripe persimmons transitioning to deep red like autumn maple leaves, with curling black smoke patterns weaving through like ink calligraphy. Moving toward the center, the largest torch dominates the composition, held by a blue-clad figure in active stance, the flames above erupting in elaborate decorative spirals reaching upward and outward, creating warmth like standing near a bonfire on a cool evening. The fire patterns curl and bifurcate into organic shapes suggesting both natural combustion and traditional artistic motifs, with touches of deep blue appearing within the predominantly warm conflagration. To the right, a pair of standing torches rise vertically, their flames intermingling at the crown while several figures in matching blue attire work at their bases, some appearing to carry additional materials. The figures throughout are rendered simply, their features suggested rather than detailed, wearing what appears to be traditional festival clothing in cool blue that provides visual respite from the surrounding warmth. Scattered throughout the white space, small dots in red, orange, green, and blue suggest floating sparks and embers, creating gentle movement across the entire field. The overall sensation is one of joyful communal activity, warmth emanating from the brilliant flame displays, and celebratory energy captured in still form.
She was asked to create a cover illustration with the theme of Aichi Prefecture Festivals in order to spread the appeal of Aichi Prefecture (history, culture, industry, etc.) to the whole of Japan and the world. She observed festivals unique to Aichi through video and documents, captured their characteristics, and expressed the fun and uniqueness of the festivals in her own way through illustrations.
