Rongji Private Banquet Space Design

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

Entering this private banquet room, one encounters an intimate dining environment defined by a striking burgundy red ceiling overhead, this warm deep crimson surface spanning the upper register and punctuated by six glowing spherical pendant lights arranged in a symmetrical pattern suggesting constellation or molecular structure, each luminaire emitting soft diffused warmth like frosted moons suspended in space. Scanning downward along the vertical surfaces, the walls present an alternating rhythm of illuminated warm-toned recessed niches and flat dark charcoal to black panels, creating a pattern of light and shadow that moves around the perimeter, with one particularly notable illuminated niche at left containing a large circular brass or gold-toned medallion featuring intricate geometric patterns reminiscent of interlocking circles or traditional decorative motifs, this metallic disc catching and reflecting the ambient light. Moving to the right wall, a distinctive tiered wall sconce composed of stacked horizontal cream-colored bands provides lateral illumination, its sculptural form suggesting layered discs or rings creating gentle shadowed recesses between each tier. The middle ground of the space centers on a round dining table dressed in a midnight black tablecloth that pools smoothly across its surface, the fabric appearing soft and matte, set with an elegant dining arrangement including white plates, smaller red accent plates, crystal glassware catching pinpoints of light, dark cylindrical vessels perhaps for condiments or flowers, and a low central arrangement of white flowers and greenery providing organic softness against the geometric precision of the surrounding architecture. Six dining chairs encircle this table, their frames appearing to be dark ebony or espresso-toned wood with smooth polished finish cool to the touch, supporting generous seat cushions and curved backs upholstered in pristine cream fabric suggesting soft wool or linen texture, the light upholstery providing visual warmth and contrast against darker elements. The floor beneath stretches in a herringbone pattern of medium to dark wood planks, their diagonal zigzag arrangement creating dynamic visual movement and suggesting the smooth cool surface of finished hardwood. In the lower right foreground, an unexpected biophilic element emerges: what appears to be a bed of vibrant green moss or miniature landscape installation, its organic irregular texture and living verdant color providing striking counterpoint to the refined geometry and controlled palette of the architectural envelope, suggesting the freshness of forest floor or garden and introducing a subtle earthy scent association. The overall spatial quality feels enclosed yet not confined, the ceiling height appearing generous enough to prevent claustrophobia while the darker tones and layered lighting create a sense of protective intimacy, the temperature of the space reading as comfortably warm through the amber glow of lighting and the visual warmth of burgundy and cream tones, the atmosphere suggesting hushed quiet broken only by the implied gentle conversation of diners, the stillness of a space designed for focused human connection and the ceremonial enjoyment of cuisine and company.
