Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025
Entering this workspace environment, you encounter an open office interior characterized by visual complexity overhead and organizational clarity at floor level, spanning what appears to be a substantial rectangular floor plate oriented toward natural light sources positioned beyond your right shoulder. The ceiling plane commands immediate attention, densely populated with exposed building infrastructure including wide oval galvanized metal ductwork running parallel to your viewing angle, cylindrical aluminum ventilation conduits with ribbed surfaces that would feel cool and slightly ridged to touch, bundled black electrical conduits and data cabling creating linear patterns, and various mechanical systems all left visible in metallic finishes ranging from bright reflective aluminum suggesting mirror-smoothness to matte galvanized steel with its characteristic crystalline zinc coating texture. The floor surface consists of commercial carpet in charcoal gray with subtle tonal variation, feeling firm yet slightly yielding underfoot with a low-profile texture. In the left foreground, a series of geometric cubic forms create an ascending arrangement, each box rendered in warm natural wood with horizontal grain patterns suggesting maple or light birch, finished to a smooth satin sheen that would feel sleek and slightly cool to touch, each form approximately three to four feet in width and varying in height to create irregular stair-stepping. Moving toward the center and right portions of the space, several low-profile modular seating elements upholstered in rich purple fabric with visible linear ribbing texture sit directly on the gray carpet; this upholstery appears soft and yielding with the vertical ribs creating subtle tactile variation, each seating unit roughly five feet long and perhaps fifteen inches high, suggesting soft comfort like firm cushions. Slender pedestal tables with white cylindrical bases and rectangular wooden tops matching the warm maple tone of the cubic elements stand at intervals, their surfaces smooth and level at approximately standing desk height. Beyond these furniture groupings, translucent white curtains in lightweight fabric hang from ceiling to floor along the right perimeter, their material suggesting soft flowing texture like voile or sheer linen, filtering bright natural daylight that creates diffused illumination throughout the space without harsh shadows, this light feeling cool and even like an overcast day or north-facing exposure. Behind the sheer curtains, darker vertical mullions suggest floor-to-ceiling glass windows. In the middle ground, several potted plants with lush green foliage introduce organic shapes, the leaves appearing fresh and vital. The background reveals glass-fronted enclosed rooms with charcoal frames, their transparent walls maintaining visual connection to the perimeter windows beyond while providing separate spaces. The overall atmosphere suggests quiet focused activity with abundant natural light, cool air circulation from the visible ventilation systems, and the sound-absorbing quality of carpet and fabric creating acoustic softness. The exposed metallic ceiling infrastructure creates visual density and complexity above while the floor-level organization maintains clarity and accessibility, the warm wood tones providing psychological warmth against the cool grays and metals, and the purple upholstery adding vibrant color punctuation that catches attention and provides visual wayfinding across the open environment.
Their approach to this office design skillfully reflects the flexibility and sustainability of place required in the modern era. The design is characterized by the variable functional space required in today's world and the use of colors and materials rarely used in offices to match the character of each location. In addition, the challenge of reducing the number of construction items throughout the project, with an eye toward the future of the urban office, provides hints for future office design.
