Ink And Ivory Harmony Residence

Bronze A' Design Award Winner 2025

Entering this residential interior, one encounters a sophisticated living space organized across three distinct spatial layers that progress from the immediate foreground through a central seating area toward a softly illuminated window wall in the distance. Beginning in the lower foreground, a section of matte black dining table occupies the bottom edge, its surface smooth and non-reflective, bearing an open magazine or publication with visible printed pages, establishing the viewer's implied position within the dining zone. Just beyond and slightly elevated, the middle ground reveals the heart of the living area, anchored by a generously proportioned L-shaped sectional sofa upholstered in fabric the color of warm cream or light sand, soft and inviting in appearance, approximately spanning half the composition's width. This seating arrangement faces rightward and is layered with five throw pillows in varied tones and textures: deep charcoal gray smooth fabric, olive green suggesting velvet softness, light gray matching the sofa, textured black with visible weave pattern like rough linen, and rich cognac brown leather adding warm contrast and smooth tactile quality. A charcoal throw blanket drapes casually over the sofa's arm, appearing soft as worn wool. Positioned before the sofa sits a low rectangular coffee table in glossy black lacquer, its surface reflective and cool like polished stone, bearing three objects: nearest the viewer, a small terrestrial globe in warm golden amber tones suggesting aged brass or honey-colored resin catching light, accompanied by what appears to be stacked books or a small box, and a cylindrical black vessel. A plush area rug in muted taupe or gray-brown extends beneath, suggesting the softness of deep pile beneath bare feet. The background is defined by a large window wall fitted with horizontal aluminum blinds in pale gray, their slats partially open, filtering natural daylight into soft horizontal bands that create gentle striped shadows, suggesting the diffused brightness of daytime filtered through clouds or the angle of afternoon sun. To the left side of the composition, a tall architectural element features vertical display niches painted in the same soft gray as surrounding walls, containing on the upper shelf a dark sculptural object with complex surface detail and on lower shelves minimal dark vessels and slender plants with fine leaves like grasses or palms, adding organic vertical accents. The ceiling appears smooth and pale, hovering above like overcast sky. Dominating the upper third of the entire scene, a sculptural lighting fixture commands attention through its distinctive form and warm amber glow, appearing as continuous ribbon of light bent into flowing loops and curves, like calligraphy written in luminous orange warmth against the cool gray ceiling, suspended from a sleek black mounting track. This glowing amber element radiates warmth one might feel like late afternoon sunlight, while the overall palette remains cool and restful, surfaces smooth or softly textured, the atmosphere quiet and still as a private sanctuary, suggesting the hushed quality of a carefully composed interior where every element has been considered for both beauty and comfort, inviting one to imagine the yielding softness of the sofa cushions, the coolness of the black table surface under fingertips, the gentle warmth radiating from the sculptural light above, and the filtered daylight creating peaceful privacy while maintaining connection to the world beyond the window.

The project objective is to develop a design that can cater to both the present and future requirements of the residence. While the current occupant is the sole resident, the house may accommodate partners and family members in the future. In order to enhance flexibility, the original four bedroom layout was restructured into a three bedroom configuration, allowing for increased space in each area. The gaming room was amalgamated with the collection room, and the worship room was integrated with the multifunctional room.
