Scanning from background to foreground, this architectural photograph presents a contemporary public building captured at twilight against an urban skyline. The distant background reveals a horizontal band of residential towers rendered in muted grey tones, their forms softening into the overcast sky that occupies the upper quarter of the image in graduated tones from pale blue to warm cream near the horizon. Moving forward, a construction scaffolding structure appears at the right edge, suggesting ongoing development in the surrounding area. The middle ground is dominated by the primary subject, a striking three-story building composed of interlocking rectangular volumes that step and project in different directions, creating a dynamic silhouette against the sky. The uppermost mass extends boldly to the left, clad in blue-grey metal panels that feel cool and industrial, while continuous strips of warm amber lighting, reminiscent of candlelight or sunset glow, trace the edges of this volume like glowing picture frames. The middle volume recesses beneath, featuring extensive floor-to-ceiling glass walls that reveal warmly lit interior spaces where sculptural objects and furniture are visible, suggesting a welcoming temperature like stepping into a heated room on a cool evening. This central glazed section is flanked by cream-colored vertical fins that create a rhythmic pattern resembling the texture of corduroy fabric, offering both visual interest and a sense of tactile regularity. The lowest volume projects forward at the left, again featuring expansive glass that opens views into an illuminated interior. A distinctive feature is the sheltered void created between volumes, an outdoor covered space that would feel protected overhead while remaining open to the air. The foreground presents a carefully composed landscape of geometric hardscape, with smooth paving in grey and cream tones arranged in angular patterns, bordered by dark reflective water pools whose still surfaces mirror the building's luminous edges. Manicured lawn areas and sculptural plantings soften the composition's edges, while small metallic sculptural elements float in the water, catching light like scattered coins.
The project is a public building at the entrance of a residential community, occupying 1200 square meters and housing four main functions: commercial space, community lobby, property management office, and equipment room. However, space constraints arise due to setbacks from adjacent buildings and redline restrictions. Drawing inspiration from the childhood game Jenga, the design integrates each functional area like interconnected blocks, resulting in a cohesive and unified exterior façade, enhancing overall unity.
