Anji Creative Design Center Urban and Rural Area

Listeners will explore an aerial view of a design center complex where approximately fifteen buildings spread across a verdant landscape, their rooftops covered entirely with living grass creating the impression of green meadows lifted into the air. Beginning in the upper right corner of the image, terraced forms descend like staircases, their surfaces carpeted in cool green grass with the color of fresh spring leaves, interrupted by horizontal bands of pale gray stone or gravel creating rhythmic stripes across the slope. Moving toward the center, the eye encounters a cluster of rectangular building volumes of varying sizes, each topped with thick grass surfaces in tones ranging from bright chartreuse to deeper forest green suggesting varying moisture or sun exposure across the roofs. The grass textures appear soft and yielding, like running fingers through a well-maintained lawn, contrasting with the smooth cool surfaces of white-framed pathways that wind between structures like ribbons of pale cream or warm marble laid upon the earth. A central courtyard of light gray paving, cool and firm underfoot, creates an open gathering space surrounded by glass-walled pavilions whose transparent surfaces reflect the surrounding greenery. To the left third of the composition, mature deciduous trees rise with generous canopies in deep emerald tones, their organic forms providing vertical counterpoint to the horizontal architectural elements. The overall illumination suggests an overcast day with soft diffused light, creating gentle shadows beneath building edges without harsh contrasts. Smaller buildings with green roofs continue into the background, growing progressively smaller and less detailed with distance. The atmosphere conveys profound tranquility, a sense of buildings breathing with the landscape rather than imposed upon it.

The ACDC (Anji Creative and Design Center) is located in Xilong Village, Anji County, Zhejiang Province, a famous white tea producing area in China. Completed in August 2023, with a gross floor area of 8320 sqm, the establishment of ACDC seeks to promote the modernization of the countryside in China through design and creativity. While introducing the concept of urban communities and urban population to the countryside, it seeks to bond the urban and the rural.
