210 Bloor Multi Residential House

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2024

Scanning from background to foreground, this architectural visualization presents a contemporary residential tower captured at twilight against an extensive metropolitan skyline. The distant background dissolves into a soft tapestry of illuminated buildings, their lights creating warm amber and cool white points against the deepening blue of evening sky. Wispy clouds drift across the upper portion, catching the last light in subtle gradations from pale peach to lavender. The sky itself transitions from a deep azure blue at the top through softer cerulean to warm peachy tones near the horizon, conveying the temperature shift one might feel as daylight surrenders to evening coolness. The middle ground reveals mid-rise buildings and tree canopy, with foliage appearing as dark masses punctuated by streetlights that glow like small warm beacons. Moving to the foreground left and center, the primary subject commands attention as a tall residential tower wrapped in an extraordinary skin of triangular glass panels. This geometric pattern creates a surface texture one might imagine as faceted crystal or carefully arranged origami, each triangular element reflecting surrounding light differently. The façade alternates between cool silvery-blue reflective surfaces that mirror the twilight sky and warm amber-glowing transparent sections that reveal illuminated interior spaces. Deep triangular recesses punctuate the building face, forming balconies where one can perceive small human figures, potted plants, and furnished outdoor spaces that add warmth and life to the geometric precision. The building massing steps and shifts as it rises, creating an irregular profile rather than a simple rectangular box. The surfaces feel smooth and glassy, cool to the touch as polished stone might be, while the illuminated interiors suggest warmth and domesticity. At the rooftop, solar panels angle toward the sky, and mechanical equipment sits partially screened. The overall impression conveys sophisticated metropolitan living, technological achievement harmonized with human comfort.

210 Bloor is a 29-storey mixed-use building home to 42 residential units, 126m2 of retail space and 3 levels of below-grade parking. The development will result in a gross floor area of 15,589m2 with an overall density of 20 times the area of the lot. The design features a mirrored glass triangular tessellated geometric pattern on the east and west facades, which are designed right to the property line. The mirrored finish of the hexagonal panels creates a canvas of reflected light and forms.
