Silver A' Design Award Winner 2024
This description covers an interior space viewed from floor level, looking along a corridor-like arrangement that extends into depth. Scanning from left to right, the most prominent feature occupies the left third of the composition: an enormous wheel-like structure mounted against a deep blue wall, constructed from warm copper-orange curved bands arranged in concentric circles emanating outward from a central hub, with dozens of round white bulbs affixed along these bands creating a glowing spiral effect reminiscent of a vintage carnival attraction or an imaginary nautical instrument. The surface behind appears saturated in a color like deep twilight or navy velvet, smooth and glossy. Surrounding this central wheel, smaller circular forms project from the wall at various heights, these featuring softer colors suggesting cool mint ice cream, pale sky, and fresh cream, with curved interior divisions creating shapes that might suggest simplified clouds, gentle waves, or friendly marine creatures. Moving rightward into the middle ground, cylindrical columns wrapped with similar decorative elements extend from floor to ceiling, some featuring spiral staircases with zigzag patterns in warm coral and cream winding around them. The floor beneath is extraordinarily glossy, like still dark water or polished stone, reflecting all the illuminated elements above and creating a doubled sense of the light sources. The ceiling above echoes the wall color, smooth and dark with scattered points of reflected light like stars. The overall sensation is one of stepping into an underwater observatory or a fantastical vessel, warm from the abundant glowing bulbs yet cool from the surrounding blue envelope, smooth surfaces throughout creating a pristine almost dreamlike tactile environment, the air itself seeming to hold the quality of anticipation and gentle enchantment that precedes discovery and play.
Piccola is a play cafe designed to feel like people are stepping into a lively carnival city. The design combines storytelling and architecture to create an immersive experience. From the carousel-shaped ceiling light to the city skyline-inspired wall panels and mirror surfaces creating captivating illusions, every detail adds to the atmosphere. It stands out by sticking to its theme throughout, creating a space that's both creative and practical for both parents and children.
