Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2024
This installation presents an immersive spatial environment composed of hundreds of slender vertical light elements suspended from a structured ceiling, experienced from a ground-level viewpoint that allows the eye to travel through layers of illuminated columns extending from nearby foreground through middle distance into far background, with the entire composition reflected in a polished floor surface below. Beginning with orientation, the viewer encounters a large-scale interior installation occupying what appears to be a substantial room or gallery space rendered almost entirely dark except for the glowing amber light elements themselves and their reflections, with the installation structured by a visible ceiling grid from which individual luminous tubes descend at regular intervals like a geometric forest or curtain of light. Scanning from foreground to background, the nearest light elements appear as crisp vertical tubes roughly one to two inches in apparent diameter and varying in length from perhaps six to ten feet, glowing with warm amber illumination reminiscent of honey lit from within or the rich golden color of late afternoon sunlight filtering through amber glass, each element casting a gentle downward-directed beam while simultaneously emitting a soft atmospheric glow from its entire length. Moving into the middle ground, the density of suspended elements creates complex overlapping relationships where dozens of vertical light columns at slightly varying distances create a layered spatial matrix, with some elements appearing brighter and more defined while others recede into softer focus, the overall effect suggesting movement through a luminous grove or passage between glowing vertical thresholds. In the far background, individual elements begin to merge into a more generalized amber luminosity as distance softens detail and atmospheric perspective takes hold, creating a glowing horizon that suggests infinite recession beyond the visible limits of the space. The color throughout registers as warm amber ranging from pale golden yellow like candlelight or early morning sun through richer honey tones suggesting aged whiskey or amber resin to deeper burnt orange and copper accents where light concentrates or reflects, temperatures that feel intimate and welcoming like hearthlight or sunset rather than cool or clinical. The ceiling plane from which elements suspend reveals a geometric grid of suspension points creating orderly distribution across the horizontal dimension, suggesting careful mathematical planning and systematic organization underlying the organic atmospheric effect. The floor surface appears highly reflective, reading as polished wood planks with visible grain texture that capture and mirror each vertical light element creating doubled visual information, with reflections appearing slightly softer and more diffused than the primary elements above, and introducing undulating patterns that suggest gentle water ripples or waves disturbing the mirror surface, adding kinetic visual energy to otherwise static vertical geometry. The surrounding architectural container reads as completely dark, with walls and ceiling dissolved into black void that makes the installation feel suspended in infinite space rather than contained within defined boundaries, a darkness that feels enveloping and contemplative like nighttime or a meditative enclosure rather than oppressive. The lighting quality throughout feels warm and gentle like candlelight or oil lamp illumination, with soft shadows and gradual transitions between light and dark rather than harsh contrasts, creating an atmosphere that suggests quietude, introspection, and calm immersion. The scale relationship between human viewer and installation suggests the vertical elements would surround a standing person, creating an immersive environment one moves through rather than observes from outside, with the repetition of elements in all directions producing a sense of infinite extension or cosmic patterning. The technical execution appears refined and precise, with each element maintaining consistent brightness and color, suspension achieving apparent weightlessness despite the physical reality of hundreds of individual fixtures, and overall spatial distribution demonstrating careful calibration of density and interval to achieve both systematic order and atmospheric perceptual effect.
Tender soul of ocean blends technology, nature, and humanity. It translates hidden environmental cues into visible lights, emphasizing nature's messages. Placed along the coastline, it showcases flowing lights' beauty, adjusting instantly to the wind's force and direction, revealing subtle sea breeze shifts. This fusion of tech and nature sparks contemplation on the natural world's dialogues, unveiling the profound link between humanity and the environment.
