Listeners may construct a mental image of a large contemporary sports stadium photographed from directly above during early evening twilight, the structure appearing as an elongated oval shape like a stretched ring occupying the center of the composition and surrounded by green landscape extending to distant mountains. The stadium form wraps around a central athletic field in a horseshoe configuration, open at one end closest to the viewer where two tall rectangular towers frame a ceremonial entrance plaza. The exterior surface of the stadium is wrapped in a distinctive pattern of geometric shapes, rectangular panels alternating between deep navy blue like twilight sky and bright white like fresh snow, arranged in an offset checkerboard pattern that creates visual rhythm across the curving surface, the pattern appearing as if woven across the building's skin. Moving inward from this patterned exterior, a smooth white roof canopy curves gently over spectator seating areas, the surface appearing as continuous and flowing as fabric stretched between supports. Within the bowl, rows of seating in muted red tones descend toward the playing field, the seats arranged in regular geometric patterns. The innermost zone contains the athletic facilities, a terracotta-colored running track forming an oval ring like rust-colored ribbon surrounding the central playing field, which glows with the fresh green of well-maintained grass, the color suggesting new growth and vitality. The sky above transitions from warm peachy coral near the horizon, like the inside of a seashell, through delicate rose pink to soft pale blue overhead, with thin clouds catching late light. Distant mountains form a blue-violet silhouette at the horizon, rendered soft and hazy through atmospheric distance. Surrounding the stadium, mature trees with full canopies create organic contrast against the geometric precision of the architecture, while scattered buildings suggest community context.
This is an open stadium that is an integral part of the community. A stadium that would extend the adjacent park and connect with the university. The southern end of the stadium incorporates a sloping lawn where people could walk up or have picnics and leads to an amphitheater with a magnificent backdrop. This expression of social architecture creates a barrier free stadium that is accessible to everyone. This is both a stadium and a park, a space that does not discriminate. It is social infrastructure that helps bond the community. It is a stadium for the people.
