Silver A' Design Award Winner 2024
Scanning from the entrance perspective toward the far reaches of this residential interior, listeners will encounter an expansive open-plan living space dominated by cool gray surfaces reminiscent of smooth river stones or morning fog. The floor beneath presents polished concrete in a medium gray tone with subtle tonal variations, feeling cool and solid like slate underfoot. Rising from this floor in the foreground center sits a sunken seating area featuring an L-shaped sectional sofa upholstered in deep charcoal gray fabric that would feel dense and supportive like pressed wool. Arranged across this sofa are decorative cushions—several in rich emerald green suggesting fresh spring leaves, alternating with smaller black pillows providing tonal depth. Immediately before the seating area, a low rectangular coffee table with dark reflective surface holds two decorative vessels in deep bottle green resembling aged glass or glazed ceramic. Moving attention leftward, tall floor-to-ceiling windows span much of the left wall, their black metal frames creating a strong grid pattern. Covering portions of these windows, perforated brick screens in warm terracotta orange filter daylight into intricate lace-like shadow patterns that fall across the floor in geometric dapples suggesting afternoon sunshine through woven screens. The ceiling above extends as an uninterrupted concrete plane in mottled gray tones like weathered stone, crossed by a linear track lighting system with small warm-toned spotlights creating focused pools of golden illumination. Beyond the living area in the middle distance, a kitchen island constructed from matching terracotta brick supports a timber countertop in honey-gold wood tones warm as afternoon light on bare skin. The far background reveals additional glazed walls and another brick screen at right, with mature green foliage visible beyond suggesting an enclosed garden courtyard bringing nature close.
The Corner Villa is designed to cater to the owner's lifestyle and preferences, providing private spaces for hosting events and relaxation. The courtyard is placed at the rear, away from the parking area, while a deep balcony connects the cozy spaces to the main building. The villa's form utilizes broken and lozenge-shaped lines to create visual appeal and shadow play. Construction materials are prominently and exposedly used to design without the need for meticulous finishing.
