Chuxin Pavilion Community Service Center

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2024

This aerial photograph presents a contemporary community service center and landscape design viewed directly from above, revealing a dominant circular lawn at center measuring approximately one-third of the total visible area. Beginning with orientation, the composition shows a large verdant circle of manicured grass surrounded by concentric rings of paved walkways, terraced seating, and mature tree plantings, with a glazed pavilion building anchoring the left side. The circular lawn displays rich grass in tones of fresh spring green with subtle variations suggesting gentle undulation, the color carrying the cool vitality of well-watered vegetation. Moving clockwise from the building, curved stone pathways in warm honey-beige and cool dove-grey wrap around the lawn like embracing arms, their surfaces appearing smooth and sun-warmed. The pavilion structure features an angular glass roof that reflects sky in cool silver-blue tones, suggesting the crispness of polished metal, while warm terracotta-colored panels create visual warmth against the cooler surroundings. Terraced amphitheater seating steps down toward the lawn along the lower and right portions of the circle, rendered in pale limestone suggesting chalky coolness underfoot. Dense clusters of deciduous trees frame the composition edges, their canopies appearing as soft, billowing masses in forest green with hints of olive and emerald where sunlight penetrates. The texture of the tree crowns suggests the softness of cotton batting viewed from above. Beyond the immediate landscape, grey asphalt roads border the site at upper right and upper left, introducing geometric linearity that contrasts with the organic curves below. An elevated pedestrian bridge extends from the right side, its geometric form creating visual connection to surrounding context. The overall atmosphere suggests a temperate late spring or early summer day with soft, even illumination from above casting minimal shadows, creating a sense of calm invitation and communal gathering potential.

The project is located in the central area of Minhang District, Shanghai, within a public green space, boasting beautiful natural scenery. The surrounding area has convenient transportation and a developed commercial and residential system.
