Supa Fama Restaurant and Bar

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2024

A multi-level restaurant interior viewed from an elevated position, looking down into a lushly planted dining space, this is an interior design photograph in landscape format. Scanning from top to bottom and background to foreground, the ceiling reveals exposed industrial infrastructure painted in dark charcoal tones, with structural beams, conduits, and track lighting creating a geometric grid overhead. Suspended from this industrial canopy, spherical glass globe pendant lights hang on blackened chains at varying heights, their warm amber glow resembling illuminated lanterns casting pools of honeyed light throughout the vertical space. The background wall features vertical corrugated panels in muted sage green, providing textural relief, while to the right a painted mural depicts large tropical palm fronds in deep forest green and golden yellow. A graceful spiral staircase with metalwork balustrades featuring diamond lattice patterns descends through the center of the composition, its helical form creating an elegant sculptural presence. The middle ground reveals abundant greenery, with Boston ferns cascading from planters mounted on dark steel railings, their feathery fronds soft as brushed silk, creating a verdant canopy that suggests walking beneath a forest bower. The fern foliage ranges from bright spring green to deeper emerald tones, cool and fresh like morning dew on leaves. Square dining tables with mosaic tile surfaces in aqua and pale seafoam tessellation pattern occupy the lower levels, their cool ceramic surfaces smooth as polished stone. The flooring throughout appears in warm terracotta and amber tones, suggesting sun-warmed earth or aged brick, providing grounding warmth beneath the cool green canopy above. Additional potted plants including small trees with delicate branching and broader-leafed tropicals punctuate the dining areas. The overall atmosphere suggests a greenhouse sanctuary, humid and verdant, with the warmth of the pendant lighting creating intimate conversation pools within the larger botanical environment.

Supa Fama is a restaurant chain in Guangzhou, China. They serve typical western style cuisine with a focus on using farm fresh produce and quality meats. They aim to promote a healthy lifestyle by eating well. With this in mind, their visual identity features abundant greenery and natural materials, creating a garden-like atmosphere. At the most recent location, an historical theme is inserted into this verdant context, conceived as a steampunk version of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. It is designed to transport guests to another place and time, whilst remaining a cosy place to dine.
