Yongai E Home City Lounge Station

Golden A' Design Award Winner 2024

Scanning from background to foreground, listeners should envision a nighttime urban scene with tall commercial buildings rising in the distance, their facades displaying illuminated signage in soft whites, yellows, and cool blues against the deep blue-black of an evening sky. Moving to the middle ground, the buildings frame a street-level view of shops and storefronts with varied lighting creating an ambient glow. Dominating the foreground and center of the scene stands a rectangular pavilion structure approximately the size of a large shipping container, positioned on a smooth grey pavement that reflects the light emanating from within. The pavilion walls consist of translucent corrugated panels arranged vertically, creating a rhythmic pattern of parallel ridges running from ground to roof. Through these panels, a warm amber light glows outward with the gentle warmth of honey or candlelight, transforming the entire structure into a luminous beacon. The texture of the panels might feel like smooth plastic with regular raised ridges under fingertips, slightly cool to the touch. A narrow horizontal band of bright yellow light, thin as a ribbon, runs along the top edge of the structure like a glowing crown, and a matching yellow band traces the bottom edge where the structure meets the ground. The frame of the structure appears to be brushed metal with the smooth cool feeling of aluminum. Through the glowing translucent walls, soft blurred shapes suggest human figures inside, their forms indistinct but indicating activity and presence. To the left, a smaller adjoining structure with clear glass panels reveals interior elements more distinctly. The overall atmosphere suggests a welcoming haven of warmth against the cool darkness of evening, the kind of gentle radiance that might draw weary travelers toward rest and shelter. The surrounding area feels like a commercial district with the bustling energy settled into evening quiet, the pavement smooth underfoot and the air carrying the slight chill of urban nighttime.

The life in a city is usually fast-paced and self-enclosed. The designer hopes to create a temporary homelike lounge in the city through a lighting box with warmth. The project is a special box located in the city center, serving as a warm light in the city. It provides a home-like rest stop for city workers in busy areas, offering convenient services such as a place for short breaks, drinking water, charging stations, first-aid kits, and various other amenities.
