Villa Bianca Private House

Silver A' Design Award Winner 2023

Scanning this architectural photograph from background to foreground reveals a contemporary residential exterior bathed in natural daylight. The upper portion presents a clear sky of pure cerulean blue, cool and luminous like a perfect summer morning, with soft white clouds drifting at the upper left edge. A tall white boundary wall spans the left third of the composition, its smooth surface animated by flowing shadows that feel like silk ribbons cast from unseen trees beyond. Mature vegetation rises behind this wall, its deep green foliage providing organic texture against the geometric architecture. A carefully shaped specimen tree with an elegant curved silhouette emerges from a dark container at left center, its form resembling a living sculpture with branches reaching gracefully outward. The primary architectural mass occupies the center and extends rightward, consisting of large rectangular panels in pristine white with a surface texture smooth as fine porcelain. Subtle horizontal joints divide the facade into a rhythmic grid pattern, crisp as ruled lines. Metallic letters spelling the residence name appear centered on this volume, their reflective surface catching light. The right portion reveals architectural depth where a substantial overhang projects forward, creating dramatic diagonal shadows that feel sharp and cool against the sunlit walls. Below, the ground plane consists of white rounded pebbles, their aggregate texture suggesting the gentle crunch of footsteps. Three sculptural furniture pieces in matching white occupy the lower left foreground, their cylindrical forms smooth as polished stone, appearing at varying heights like abstract totems. Rectangular stepping stones in light gray create a pathway through the pebble field, their surfaces flat and welcoming underfoot.

The project consists of partial reconstruction and complete visual transformation of an existing house built in pseudo-traditional style. The main idea has been to achieve the exactly opposite effect: to have a contrasting, memorable, minimalistic and contemporary architecture. The biggest challenge of the project has been to reduce the cluster of geometries and to emphasize the constructive principle of the building by making some spatial and organizational improvements of the interior.
