Chengdu Hyperlane Park Retail Architecture

Platinum A' Design Award Winner 2023

Scanning an aerial view of an expansive urban development, the composition presents a long, elevated pedestrian park stretching from the lower right toward the upper left of the frame, creating a dynamic diagonal across the scene. This elevated structure, clad in warm copper and terracotta tones reminiscent of burnished metal catching afternoon light, undulates gently like a ribbon or wave frozen in motion, rising and dipping as it extends into the distance. The walkway surface, accessible at street level and elevated approximately two to three stories above ground, hosts numerous small figures of people strolling, gathering, and enjoying rooftop gardens planted with soft purple lavender, amber grasses, and deep green shrubs. Below and alongside this elevated promenade, at ground level, a broad pedestrian plaza stretches the full length of the development, paved in warm gray tones and populated with dozens of visitors appearing as small figures engaged in leisurely movement. Mature deciduous trees line both sides of the central spine, their canopies rendered in rich viridian and sap green, providing cool shade and softening the urban environment. To the left, a multi-lane roadway runs parallel, with a few vehicles visible, while buildings of varying heights frame both edges, their facades in neutral cream, gray, and terracotta tones. The sky above occupies the upper portion of the frame, rendered in soft gradients from pale cerulean near the horizon to gentle pearl gray overhead, suggesting humid atmospheric conditions that diffuse the sunlight into an even, warm glow. Sculptural elements punctuate the scene, including a bright orange figure resembling a giraffe at right and golden organic forms scattered along the promenade, adding moments of playful color against the predominantly warm neutral palette. The distant skyline reveals a distinctive twisted tower serving as a visual landmark, rendered in cool blue-gray tones that suggest atmospheric depth and distance.

Hyperlane Park consists of 12 plots, spanned across the sky garden corridor, overlooking the city and project entrances. Designed as a 2.4 km continuous urban landscaped corridor, the sky walkway is a leisure space that cultivates a live-work dynamic. The project is proximal to a music conservatory. Inspired by syllabic rhythms and sounds, the design fosters this musical motif through six different groups of architectural forms. The fluid layout of the design grants the building unity with its surrounding textures to highlight the project's harmonious blend with its community.
