Beginning with overall orientation, the scene presents an architectural view captured from ground level looking directly upward through a vertical shaft or atrium within a contemporary sacred building, the image dominated by a powerful sense of upward motion and vertical ascension toward a luminous sky opening above. Scanning the composition from the outer edges inward and from bottom to top, the foreground and lower portion of the frame reveal the closest horizontal architectural elements, appearing as layered terraces or stepped platforms in warm reddish-brown tones similar to fired clay or natural terracotta, their surfaces matte and solid-appearing, each layer projecting forward slightly to create rhythmic shadow lines that deepen the sense of three-dimensional depth and structural solidity, these lower tiers punctuated by regular small rectangular openings through which fragments of cool blue-gray sky become visible, the openings arranged in orderly rows suggesting precise geometric planning and creating a grid-like pattern that provides both visual rhythm and controlled light penetration. Moving upward into the middle ground, the horizontal banding continues with similar warm earth tones ranging from deeper burnt orange to lighter peachy amber as the layers recede and catch varying amounts of overhead light, each successive tier appearing slightly smaller due to perspectival foreshortening, reinforcing the sense that the viewer stands at the base of a tall vertical space looking up through many stacked levels, the warm tones throughout suggesting materials like weathered wood, clay brick, or composite architectural panels finished in earth-derived pigments, the temperature association warm as sun-baked adobe or autumn leaves, the texture implying smooth finished surfaces with crisp clean edges rather than rough natural stone, as if carefully fabricated and precisely installed with attention to alignment and detail. Dominating the central vertical axis from bottom to top runs a graceful curved element in much lighter tones, appearing as soft amber cream or pale honey, this central form catching the brightest illumination from above and reading as smooth and reflective compared to the surrounding matte horizontal layers, its curved surface suggesting the gentle swell and hollow of organic forms like the inside of a shell or the curve of clasped hands, though rendered at monumental architectural scale, the color of this central element warm as candlelight or morning sunlight filtering through rice paper, its surface appearing to glow with captured light. The upper portion of the composition reveals the continuation of horizontal banding in progressively smaller scale as the perspective converges toward the apex, the warm terracotta and sienna tones persisting throughout while shadow depth gradually decreases toward the top where more ambient light reaches the surfaces, and finally opening to the brilliant cool blue of sky, light as pale robin's egg or clear morning atmosphere, this celestial opening functioning as the ultimate destination of the upward visual journey, the blue feeling cool and fresh as mountain air after the warmth of the earthen materials below. The lighting throughout suggests strong natural daylight entering from directly overhead, creating the sense of standing at the bottom of a deep well or atrium with sunlight pouring down from above, the illumination washing across the smooth central curved element with particular brightness while the recessed horizontal bays fall into graduated shadow that creates strong contrast and dimensional modeling, the overall effect one of being within an enclosed vertical space that nevertheless maintains connection to the open sky and natural light above, the atmosphere feeling still, quiet, and contemplative as if within a sanctuary or meditation chamber designed to focus attention upward and inward simultaneously. The proportions convey monumental scale, the many stacked horizontal levels suggesting the structure rises multiple stories above the viewer's position, the regular fenestration rhythm providing scale reference that emphasizes the vertical height and the diminutive position of any human figure standing at this ground-level vantage point, creating a relationship between viewer and architecture that evokes humility, wonder, and the sense of aspiration toward something elevated and transcendent beyond ordinary experience.
The project is inside the Xuedou Mountain Scenic Area, in Xikou Town, Fenghua District of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, with a planned land area of 144.997 square meters. The project site used to be an abandoned quarry with an open area in front of it, with complicated topology, where the height difference between the highest point and the bottom of the abandoned quarry is about 35 meters, and a North-Ring underground railway line passes through under the quarry.
